The Rockets have added another guard to their growing list of training camp options in the backcourt, signing Rashad McCants to a non-guaranteed contract, a person with knowledge of the deal said Thursday.

McCants averaged 9.6 points per game last season, and has averaged 10 points per game in four seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings. A 6-4 guard, he was the 14th player taken in the 2005 NBA Draft after helping North Carolina to the national championship.

non-guaranteed........but o well! with McGrady out, watch McCants pick up 10+ ppg and 10+ detrimental issues to the team per game!

I wonder what Morey's reasoning is on this one? Is there some formula out there that equates awful defense and jacking up shots with 20 seconds left on the clock with winning basketball?

We need to admit that the kid does have talent, he does have tools. But the mental part is horrible. If a real coach could reach him it could be a decent gamble.

I wish McCants well. Hopefully he discovers how to be productive in his role and really begins his career.

That reminded me an awful lot of Von Wafer.

I think Morey's reason for doing this is because its a NON guarenteed contract. The Rockets have like 6 of those right now competing for one spot.

I understand that, but McCants is such a knucklehead with just enough talent to tease you. He might show enough with his scoring to get that last spot, but unless something major has changed, your team would come to regret bringing him in.

I remember Wolves fans used to be (very) high on him. What happened?

He can't be a bigger knucklehead than Von Wafer. And he can't possibly be crazier than Ron Artest right? Its nothing the Rockets haven't seen before. And besides, its about a 50/50 shot he makes the team.

He got hurt. Garnett left. His narcissistic personality disorder took over.
I almost feel kind of sad for the guy. Almost.

Shaddy has talent, and he played well under Casey, but I don't think he has the mental toughness to bring his game back after that break up with the younger Kardashian.
