i know this was touched upon last year in the rankings and its looking to be more of a factor, but when you are talking about different positions, their overall rankings don't compare. a 78 PG is not necessarily better than a 72 C.
edit** looks like the rankings are now 25-99, so a much broader range of scores.

You have to realize that these ratings aren't really a reflection of how good a player is or a means to compare them against each other. From what I understand, a player's overall rating is based primarily on how good they are at certain things based on their position. (For example, a point guard has high numbers in passing and dribbling but low in everything else will have a higher overall rating than one who has high ratings in inside scoring and rebounding but low in everything else.)
Also, the ratings are effected by how good you are at a variety of things, so since Hollins can rebound and block shots very well but sucks at everything else, he gets a 54. Rondo, on the other hand, can do just about everything but shoot the 3 ball at an average or above average rate, so he gets an 87. That doesn't mean he's necessarily better than Jefferson (84 overall), it jsut means that he's good at a lot of things and great at the point guard things.

Good point but i still think it's bs how they did it, i would rather have the game lowest player rating 59-97, more avg players in high 60s-mid 70s, put Hollins at like 66, Love at 77 or + or Gomes at 71, the low numbers in the game is just intimidating to look at, my first reaction to seeing these ratings was definitely a slap in the face and it was for others too.
ex: Ty Lawson 74 = Jonny Flynn 74

i like the bigger range for ratings. can compare players of the same position with more scrutiny.

Most people are looking at these ratings relative to what they knew about the rating system in years past. It's completely different this year, so you can throw all of that out.

Exactly. I'd say theres a good 7-10 pt difference in where they are now to where they would be in the old rating system.

I kinda like the new ratings ( 25-99), What their trying to do is separate the Superstars from the rest of the pack. I will agree there seems like some player stats are off here and there but overall it seems improved. In association it was always to easy to take a decent player and make him 95+ because the ratings were to high to start with.

At an offensive rating of 38, there is no doubt people are going to make him their go to scorer

I think roughly, the majority of players are about -10 points of what they would have been in the old system. A lot of guys are exactly 10 points lower than what they were last years. So love would be around 82. Ellington around 72. For players like Lebron who are around 96, in previous 2K games a player would be rated 99 but in actuality their true rating would be above 99. It would like 106 or 112. I remember back in 2K5, KG's true rating was well over 100.
