Kahn's goals now: dev, draft 2010, cap space

This season is all about developing young players, getting a good draft pick next june [which means losing] and positioning for free agents with available cap space next summer.

If the "young wolves" - Jefferson, Love, Sessions, Flynn, Brewer are good enough for the playoffs I think Kahn would be happy, but he won't enhance them with veterans.

He wants one more top ten pick to add to his "assets". For that the wolves must win no more than about 33 to 35 games.

The wolves have lots of assets.

He has another "top 3" pick - Rubio stashed in Europe. [And in 2 years he could be the equivalent of a #1 pick.]

Another top European player - Pekovic [the best center in Europe] stashed over there.

We also have Charlotte and Utah's first round picks, gotten from Denver and Philadelphia respectively.

We are also one of only 5 NBA team with more than $13 million available to bring in a high quality free agent in 2010. [That assumes the salary cap drops to $50 M. If it stays at $58 million, we will have $21 million in cap space and possible more if we trade Gomes {$4 million more of cap space} at the trade deadline as I expect we will.]

This team is very well positioned to go deep in the playoffs in 2 years.

** Unless having these guys make the playoffs would be enough to convince LeBron or Wade to sign a max deal with the wolves

Lebron probably stays in cleveland

Wade probably goes to chicago. [Thats a big reason they didn't try to keep Gordon.]

If Lebron goes anywhere its to the New York Metro - Knicks or Nets.

Wade could also go to New York Metro or stay in Miami if Riley can attract Bosch or someone else he wants to play with.....Boozer?

Lebron wants to be the first Billionaire basketball player.

If we were good enough and he just wanted to win [like a Duncan] maybe we could attract him.

Duncan won 4 championships in San Antonio [somewhat like Minneapolis as a media market] and didn't make much money in endorsements.

Lebron wants to make money.

Wade probably goes home to chicago. He still makes his home there. They have good players around him. They took the Celtics to game 7 last year.

If we get someone say like Evan Turner next years draft, then how do the minutes go if we have other draft picks/free agents?
Pg-Flynn-sessions
sg-turner-ellington
sf-brewer-gomes
pf-love-gomes in spot minutes
C-al-hollins
?

Sorry we don't like busts. Mchale did, not Kahn. Flynn will be better.

Maybe that's why Kahn drafted Rubio, he wanted to get Henk "the dank" Norel's buddy on the team so he could get a new hook up. You'd think one of the players could have just introduced him to someone and saved him the time he wasted on Rubio.

I was only partially joking. If the cap is really at somewhere around $53.6M next year, there might be only 5-7 teams that realistically could sign LeBron or Wade to a max deal. The chances of us getting one of them look remote now, when we are going up against the likes of NYK, NJN, Cleve, and Miami. The chances will probably still be remote in June, but if we happened to just have made the playoffs with our young group of upstarts (who are still lacking a wing player to put them over the top), they will at least give it some consideration, and Kahn seems to be a very good salesman. I still doubt it will happen, but what's it to us to leave that chance open.

Riles is on the news every night, Telling us that the Heat are going to be bad this year...But with a top Free agent next year, Heat will be contenders. Though Wade would look better in a Timberwolves uniform. If I bet on who the Bulls snag it will be LBJ, Hasent Nike offered him a monster shoe contract if he signs either in NY or CHI?

Why would we ever do that? Rubio is a better prospect, and has more value should we try to trade him. Plus the fact our front office showed no interest in Derozan..

On the real, Amsterdam weed is like, alright. It just happens to be legal. It's been my experience that the best weed in the world is grown in northern California and Mexico (never have weed in Mexico, though).

I don't think Chi will have cap space to offer either LBJ or Wade a max deal.

Right now they have $30 million comitted.

But Brad Miller and Tyrus Thomas are expiring. Tyrus is a restricted free agent.

They might let him go.....if they could sign Wade...

Thats why I think we might want to think about chasing Tyrus.... if he plays well this year....

[If Hollins plays well it might not be necessary.]

Wyn is projecting a $53.6 mil cap for 2010-11. Deng $11,345,000, Hinrich $9,000,000, Salmons $5,808,000 (player option), Rose $5,546,160 (team option), Tyrus Thomas $6,256,806 (team option), Noah $3,128,536 (team option), James Johnson $1,713,600, Taj $1,117,680, They'll also have a cap hold for their #1 pick next year.
If all options are picked up that puts their salary at $43.9 mil + 1st rd pick
If they don't pick up Thomas' option, they are at $37.7 mil + 1st rd pick. Assuming a $53.6 mil cap and $1 mil for their first round pick, this would only leave them at $14.9 mil under. LBJ and Wade max deals are going to start at like (edit - $16.57 mil). I don't see them not picking up Noah or Rose. They would probably need to make a trade(s) for expirings to have enough cap room.
