comparing Brewer, Gomes and Sasha

If you compare "Wins Produced"... and assume they all played the same minutes 30 minutes per game for arguments sake...
Sasha is WP48 0.072 = 3.7 wins produced
Gomes is WP48 0.012 = 0.6 wins produced
Brewer is WP48 0.053 = 2.7 wins produced
Hoops hype on Sasha: Pretty good athlete, good shooting skills, one of the top Euros when it comes to defense. Needs to improve decision making.
Hoopshype on Gomes: Quite a polished player, nice inside-outside game, has over achieved in the NBA so far. Small forward or power forward?
Hoopshype on Brewer: outstanding athletism, pretty long, good defender, much improve shooting and ball handling.
Cleveland's half court offense wasn't a good one for Sasha and he played behind Lebron at SF, never good for anyone if you want to play. He will look much better here than Cleveland. I'm NOT saying we don't want to get a great Wing in the draft or free agency in 2010. I am saying that Sasha might be the best out of Sasha, Brewer and Gomes.
Gomes is a very solid player. He could be in the top 8 for a championship level team, which we want to be. But he isn't a starter for that team unless his play improves. What's working against Gomes is the reduction in the salary cap. The NBA estimated this summer it could drop to $50 million next season. If it does Gomes salary in the $4 million to $5million range could be too high for a number 7 or 8 player off the bench. The one thing going for him is his leadership "glue" qualities. He was name co-captain with Jefferson this summer.
Brewer is an enigma. He hasn't shown an ability to shoot consistently in the NBA [or even the summer league.] Even if he was just an average shooter his defense could make him an NBA starter on a very good NBA team, but he hasn't been close to average on offense.
Phil Jackson said, and I'm paraphrasing: Sasha is one of the best defenders on Kobe in the NBA. Thats probably one reason why Kurt asked Kahn to get him.
Of these three players, at least statistically Sasha might be the best. [I'm not accounting for Gome's leadership "glue" qualities.]

Forgot to mention on Gomes.
He came into the NBA having played mostly Power Forward in college. Mostly a low post player. He developed his jumper in the NBA which says a lot about his work ethic.
But because of his abilities as a PF that could help someone else more than us.
We have Love and Big Al to play minutes at PF [Al's at PF when he matched up with Hollins on the floor.]
So since we might not be utilizing Gomes much at PF, one of his strengths, he might be more valuable to another team than to the Wolves.

I personally feel that Gomes will also do well in this offense. He seems to rely more on his smarts then pure offensive ability and I think the Triangle Offense rewards players that can read what the D is giving them.
Also, Gomes is such a team player and great teammate that I would hate to see him leave.

I think Sasha is a really good option for Timberwolves, but the problem is that Jackson like him and minnie don't has anybody who Phil is interested, except Al Jefferson ...
... and the Ricky Rubio rights, of course. I think minnie can get Sasha and a first round draft if they offer Ricky's rights to Los Angeles.
I think is a good trade for minnie, because everybody knows Rubio will never plays for The Wolves because Minnesota is so cold.
You must remember that the wolves's expectatives are win 20 matches in 2009-10. They need reinforcements and they need them NOW.

this posting is about Sasha Pavlovic who is already a member of the Wolves.

Gomes, Pavlovic, and Brewer are 3 totally different type players. Gomes is more a tweener PF/SF while Pavs and Brewer are more prototypical 2/3 wings albeit with different skill sets. I think all 3 of them will get minutes to develop their games this season. Who knows if any of them are in the Wolves future but they will all be given a chance to prove themselves in Rambis' system. Even if the Wolves acquire a future wing thru FA or the draft I think at least 2 of these guys can still be key rotation pieces for the future.

I know it, i know it (

), but I only want to enrich the discussion because minnie need a shooting guard, not a forward. If you want to win someday, you must stop to trade players who you don't need. Flynn and Sessions are not enough.

NONE of them is certain to be here, it depends on how they perform.
If Brewer can't score at a decent shooting percentage this season, he's gone in a trade or his option is not picked up next summer, that opens cap space.
If Pavlovic doesn't play well, he isn't resigned [I personally think he has the best chance of being back, but it also depends how much interest he draws from other teams this summer. (eg how much we have to pay him as a bench player, if we draft or sign someone in the free agent market next summer) ]
Gomes is a solid bench player, now. He could show more this season, but if he doesn't, his $4 to $5 million contract might be too expensive if the Salary cap drops to $50 million next year. Gomes might be someone we trade at the trading deadline. He has probably has more value to another team as a player (because he can play PF which we don't need) and most of his contract isn't guaranteed until June 30th 2010. [We could also keep him, not pick up the option and try to sign him for less.] I like to keep Gomes if the money makes sense and we couldn't get good value for him in a trade.

Gomes is my favorite player on the Wolves, but if we feel Sasha is the more likely starter for our needs, Gomes would bring back decent trade value from a contender as a 6th or 7th man, and also add potential cap space. I could see a playoff team lose a guy to injuries, and offer an unproductive expiring and a non-lotto future 1st for Gomes, and both teams doing well in that deal.
I think I've been under-rating Sasha, and that the three additions Kahn made with Sasha, Hollins and Sessions are all good players with a lot of upside on a team like ours where they can get minutes.

you said Sasha wasn't liked in Cleveland... this site begs to differ....
http://www.realcavsfans.com/showthread.php?t=24871Said of Sasha:
"Who We Love
Sasha Pavlovic - This guy is a stud. Deadly from downtown, a Kobe/Carter stopper, a wicked behind the back dribble and a guy who's emotional play will quickly find himself as a fan favorite. The guy has a killer instinct and a focus that never wavers. A steal."

could be, but NOTHING else I saw in the write up was sarcastic. Sounded like praise for a former local boy, just a bit over the top.

After attending one pre-season game I feel compltely comfortable saying that Sasha is trash and Brewer is a future MVP. But seriously, Corey looked good last night, while Sasha jacked ugly shot after ugly shot.

I'm have to sneak on this Brewer bandwagon when nobody's looking. I like Sasha though too, I feel like he's gonna be half decent if he gets regular minutes

No, Sasha = trasha! (I reserve the right to change my opinion later on if he ever stops jacking up bad shots.)
But no seriously, I can't say enough about Brewer. Obviously he's never going to be a top offensive option, but he hits the boards, handled the ball a little better than he has in the past, got to the line a couple times, played GREAT defense(swatted Kirk into the 4th row on a 3 attempt), and just brought overall great energy. And that smile is sooooooooooo dreamy.

Now I'm sure this is where some tool accuses me of being a homer. I'm not saying Brewer's ever going to be in the discussion for an all-star visit, but he's going to prove to be a valuable member of the rotation. Now if only he can hit that outside shot, we'd have a Bruce Bowen type.

Brewer is way too cocky. The way he handles the media bugs me. He needs to learn how to be humble and start lifting weights and drinking butter. Then he can say "BUTTA!" when he shoots threes in Kobe's face.

I was a little uncomfortable with the extra long hug he gave Noah before the tip-off of Tuesday's game.

dunkonu...not a chance. brewer is shy. He is not cocky. Not cocky at all. He is an emotional player and does get pumped up when he makes a big play, but he is hardly cocky. His confidence was what was missing his rookie year. I hope he gets more confidence as well.
He is incredibly humble.
Where are you getting this from?
