While David Kahn said he drafted Ricky Rubio and Jonny Flynn with the intention of playing the two point guards together, he didn't hire a head coach who is inclined to follow such a theory.

Flynn and fellow point guard Ramon Sessions have played together only in bits of training camp scrimmages, and they haven't played together in any of the team's three preseason games.

"Right now, I'm not big on it," Kurt Rambis said. "That may change in the future, but I'm not big on it. We looked at it a little in practice. I didn't go, 'Oooohhhhhh.' I went, 'Ehhhhhhhhh.'"

I think this at least means we won't be drafting Warren anytime soon.

It's a little bit worrying when the coach and the gm are not on the same page, but it's not a huge drama. I just hope it doesn't effect the futures of Rubio, Flynn and Sessions in a damaging way.

i'm ok with trading one of them, too much talent to keep all 3, we'd waste at least one of them.

I wonder what Sessions thinks about coming off the bench, despite playing significant minutes.

Is there audio available for the quote? I really want to hear the "Ohhhhhhh" and "Ehhhhhhhhhhh?". Actually, nevermind, it's probably better in my head.

I hope NY and GS fans don't get wind of this and starts proposing deals for rubio again.

If Flynn/Sessions starts at PG then who starts at the 2?

I find it odd that Rambis is hesitant to play Flynn and Sessions together when the players competing for the 2 spot are none other than Aleksander Pavlovic, Damien Wilkins and Wayne Ellington. To me, Flynn and Sessions are clearly better players than any of those guys as well as Antonio Daniels. That means Rambis is more concerned with implementing a system than he is with simply playing the two best players at the guard positions. Personally, I don't like the idea of playing two PG's together; it would be fun to watch but the size disadvantage is too much to make up for so I'll side with Rambis on this one. However, I very much agree with Kahn that strong point guard play is essential to winning. Whether the combination of Flynn, Daniels, and Sessions (and Rubio) play together or alone, there will be at least one very good point guard on the floor at all times. Minny should be much improved running the break and consistently feeding the post to Big Al, who I predict will be an All-Star this year because of such improvement at the point guard position.

I would like to see Flynn at the 1 and Ellington as the other starter but, for some reason, I think Rambis will start the season with Flynn and Wilkins.

That's the problem, though. If Rambis doesn't think that they can play together, one (or both) won't be playing significant minutes.

So far both haven't shown why they deserve more minutes than their counterpart. Furthermore I don't believe Sessions and Flynn should start together at this time because we would then lack depth at the point guard position while limiting the minutes of Brewer and Ellington.

Warren's more of a shooting guard. I think the problem with the Flynn-Sessions combo isn't just size, it's that they're both pure point guards.

Good point Worm Guts. I still don't buy the idea that we were really going to play two PGs major minutes anyway. I think there might be some time when both Sessions and Flynn are on the floor, but I think at SG they have to give minutes to Brewer, want to give minutes to Pavlovic, and should definitely give minutes to Ellington.

Well, I don't think they were ever going to have both guys out there together for the bulk of the game. I mean, as a rookie, if Flynn gets 30 mpg, that's a big jump in workload from college, and I doubt they go much higher than that. That leaves Sessions most of the remainder and then maybe 15 mpg at SG; not because he's a spectacular SG, but because we don't have much else there. So they were only going to see something like 10 minutes together at most anyway.

I'd like to see Ellington start getting some more burn at SG, myself. The DNPs don't exactly show us if he has any promise against NBA players.

no spacing with those 2, both their guys are going to have 1 foot in the paint if they play them together, it'd be the worst spacing ever

I thought Bucks fans mentioned that Sessions played significant minutes at SG after Redd was injured.

Kahn never really said he wanted Sessions and Flynn playing together did he? He signed Sessions as a back-up plan and we needed Sessions cuz it's likely Flynn will hit a rookie wall at some point. That wall is usually extra hard when ur losing games.

If this report said something about Rambis not liking Flynn and Rubio together then I might freak. But who cares about this.

Not to freak you out, but I think not liking Flynn and Sessions together is pretty solid indicator that Rambis won't like Rubio and Flynn together. Neither should freak you out though, this summer has been mainly talent aquisition. Putting together a team that actually works on the floor is secondary.

I have to agree with the OP that Rambis has no intention of going with a dual PG backcourt. Rambis wants the Wolves to use the triangle offense in the half-court, and you don't even need one PG in that offense (except to bring the ball up the court, of course).

But you do need PGs to push the ball Showtime-style, which is what he said he wanted.

By not playing Sessions and Flynn together you open the shooting guard spot so Kahn and Rambis can showcasing people to trade at the trading deadline.

Brewer is the most likely target.

Wilkins is the other possibility

If they don't want to keep Brewer long term because of offensive liabilities, we get value for him by trading him in Feb 2010.

We can be pretty certain that Wilkins isn't in the wolves long term core. If we trade him at the trading deadline we get value for him.

By limiting Sessions minutes, arguably our third best player, you also make it more likely that we keep our #1 this year and get into the lottery.

I'd really like to see Flynn and Sessions play together. Sessions played very well in the 2 guard spot last year with the Bucks.
