Back to the slow paced offense, I take it?

He's big. Doesn't exactly replace our lost rebounding. Doesn't add 2010 salary at least.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Why not?

I wonder if we get cash in the deal to pay his contract? Maybe there is Top 59 protection on the pick?

DAL had been trying to dump Jawai and Shawne Williams for a month to any taker, to get down to the 15 man roster limit.

Someone tell Khan that we don't want Erick Dampier. Hollins and Jawai are enough.

Congrats! You've probably earned a few short-term fans from the Raptors board...even though he didn't show much (nor did he have much chance to), he's a great kid and garnered a pretty loyal following.

Big Nate is a good dude, and should get some opportunity in the next couple of weeks with Al and Love out, he will stick with a team eventually and get consistent role player minutes

you guys got Baby Shaq!! Watch out league..
jokes aside--Nate's a good kid--injuries have stopped him in getting an opportunity to play in this league. He might have a conditioning problem, but I have no doubt that when hes healthy and given an opportunity; he'll play well.

How exciting. Maybe wolves_fan_82au won't be so angry all the time now.

Does Jawai play any kind of defense? I know nothing about him except that he's Australian

I'll be watching a lot more Wolves games if he gets minutes this season which it looks like he might.

Remember before the draft when no one cared about the Wolves? 1st we got Wizard visitors, then Knick visitors, now Raptor visitors. I miss McHale.

We're relevant only during the summer. We made headlines with Sessions+Flynn+Rubio, Last year we made news with Love+Pekovic, and the year before that it was Big Al+Brewer.

It is a top 55 protected 2012 second rounder for Jawai and cash (probably equal to his salary).
So we basically got him for nothing, and the cash makes it even better than if we had just claimed him off of waivers. Saves Dallas 736k in luxury tax and opens up a roster spot.

From Zgoda's blog:

Update from the Wolves: The deal is this: Jawai and cash considerations from the Mavericks in exchange for a conditional second-round pick in the 2012 Draft. The pick is protected through the 55th draft position. “Nathan is a young project who likely will add depth to our roster at his position,” said David Kahn, Timberwolves President of Basketball Operation. “We were contemplating this trade prior to Kevin Love’s hand injury, so this move is not intended to replace Kevin in the short term by any means. That would not be fair to Nathan. Rather, this move provided us an opportunity to work with a young player with size, and later determine if he could be a fit for us.”

At a bare minimum he should be able to set screens for flynn and sessions with his big body and grab defensive rebounds.

back when he had some draft hype I always thought he was way taller than he actually is now. I always had in mind he was ~7'1'' tall but well he's "only" 6'10''.

Hollinger

2008-09 season: The rookie second-rounder overcame a heart ailment to become the NBA's first aboriginal Australian. He played in only 20 minutes for the parent club, however, and scored just a single basket.

Jawai played 14 games for the Raptors' D-League affiliate in Idaho; as an added bonus he now has platinum status on Air Canada from all the Toronto-Boise round-trips. His numbers there showed his strength in the paint, as he had a high free-throw rate and shot well from the line. However, he made far too many turnovers, and his rebound rate was a disappointment.

Scouting report: A project big man with a hulking frame at 6-foot-10, 280 pounds, Jawai needs to improve his basketball instincts and trim the baby fat to make an impact at the NBA level. His size alone makes him a threat in the paint, as he can get deep post position and draw fouls, plus he's a halfway decent midrange shooter.

2009-10 outlook: Jawai went to Dallas as a throw-in to the Shawn Marion trade, but he's unlikely to get anywhere near the court except at the end of blowouts. Look for Dallas to grant him an extended stay with its D-League affiliate in Albuquerque, where he'll try to establish more of a presence as a rebounder and get in better shape.
