Bobcats guard Raja Bell has a partially torn ligament in his left wrist that could require surgery and sideline him for most of the season
While this may delay our acquisition of the Top-12 protected pick, I think this is good news for us.
First, I don't mind waiting for a better pick:
Protections:
top 12 in 2010,
top 10 in 2011,
top 8 in 2012,
top 3 in 2013,
unprotected in 2014
.. and it looks like CHA may be headed for a few bad seasons.
Second, a worse team in CHA leads to worse attendance, and greater financial losses. Bob Johnson is already looking to find a new buyer for the team, and has started making moves that even Larry Brown suggests are financial (Okafor-for-Tyson Chandler). I think this may encourage Bob to move longer contracts to make the team more attractive to buyers, and increase the chances that Gerald Wallace's long but fair contract may become available, and at a discounted price. I think he's a little over-rated on these boards, but he'd be a really pretty fit as our #3, while we keep the door open looking for a true superstar.

I have mixed feeling on this, because with the strength of this draft, we could get a pretty talented player in the 13-16 range (example: Xavier Henry). Ah well, great asset either way.

Wonder if Char would value the pick returning in a trade? Pick+exp for Wallace perhaps?

Don't we have enough injuries right now? Why would we want to trade for the walking injury?

shouldn't impact them that much though, Bell is pretty old. Play lots of DJ, get Felton lots of minutes at SG, get Henderson some minutes - there's some silver lining potential here for the Bobcats

might help the defense though if Rambis doesn't mind him roaming around doing his own thing

What are you basing this on?
If anything I think Charlotte are on the upswing (depening on injuries)
Chandler is a much better fit both offensivly and defensivly then Okafor.
Diaw was amazing in Browns system and now has a full season in it.
Felton grew into a star under Brown and will continue to grow
Augustin looked good as a rookie
Wallace is Wallace
Henderson looked solid in pre-season
All those guys are under 30, how exactly do you see them going for a rough period (unless of course you are predicting injuries)

I do not believe Chandler will be better than Okafor, particularly with the injury risk that caused him to fail a physical when they tried trading him six months earlier.
I do not see Felton as a star, and I don't think CHA does either. They didn't give him the big contract extension he wanted and instead signed him for one year, $5.5 mil, so he's a free agent next season.
Augustine will grow, but Raja Bell was a bigger part of that team than I think people realize.
However, the biggest issue is an owner that wants to save money and is trying to sell the team. those aren't the teams that bring on the more talented players that have the bigger contracts -- teams like this sell talent to make their team cheaper. Okafor was the start, taking Chandler's two-year deal .. and if the Bobcats can deal their longtime face of the franchise to save money, they can trade any talented player.

Consider this
Cleveland, Orlando, Boston, Washington, Atlanta, Chicago, and Miami all have an edge over Charlotte. Now are they a better team than Toronto, Philadelphia, Detroit, or Indiana? Maybe, but I'm convinced. They're not a Finals threat, but at the same time they're not John Wall contenders either. They're just a team competing for the 8th seed in the playoffs.

Shrink, Felton turned down a long term deal with the Bobcats.

Yea I don't see Charlotte getting much better than this. While they did downgrade in talent in the Okafor trade, I actually think Chandler is a better fit offensively. The problem is we really don't know how good he will be without CP3. Raja Bell's affect on that team is very very very underated, I don't like Gerald Henderson, Gerald Wallace is destined for a short career, Raymond Felton is decent, Diaw is ok (but even Larry Brown was saying he was overweight coming into the season though), the only parts of the team I really like are Larry Brown, and D.J. Augustine. I think we might get the pick this year, but we should hope that we could get it when it is unprotected.

Brown only said that Diaw isn't in game shape because of his injury. RealGM of course twisted his words and titled the article "Brown to Diaw: You are overweight" or something like that. The wiretap is a joke. And regarding Bell, if anything his affect on the team is overrated. They have been trying to trade him all summer.

I don't think we get that pick this year, although that's what I'm hoping for.
I'd be in favor of returning their pick plus some filler for Crash and maybe some other small piece (a shooter if they have one?)
I'll let the big boys come up wth the scenarios.

PG- Augustin
SG- Felton
SF - J Richardson
PF- Gerald Wallace
C- Emeka Okafor
would have been way better than
PG- Augustin
SG- Bell
SF- Diaw
PF- Wallace
C- Chandler
I don't see this new team as good. It seems like the new team is trying to make itself pretty for potentional buyers.

^ How would that team be better? Diaw is alot better than Richardson. That trade was a steal for the Bobcats. Also, Wallace is the SF and Diaw is the PF.

Are you series?
The second team (with the bolded parts fixed) would beat the first team. I dont think you realise how good Diaw can be in the right system.

I had Felton at the 1 because he gets more assists. Aren't they technically Interchangeable? If we are going by starters, then you are right.
I guess not. I've really liked J Rich ever since the Golden State days, so maybe I'm a little biased.
Is Diaw a Larry Brown system kinda guy? I thought he worked better a an uptempo new guy that the defense isn't prepared for ala PHX in his first year. In his first year in CHA, I observed it as the same "defense not prepared for" kind of thing without the tempo. Enlighten me.

Diaw is definitely an LB guy because he works hard and does the little things necessary to win. He's a great glue guy. Brown likes guys who play the game the right way, that's Diaw.

Even more so, Diaws passing ability makes him a the facilitator of most of browns offense from the post. Thats why I think CHandler will average better numbers here then he did in NO last year, Diaw will be feeding him.
