Gomes

Post#1 » by Hemingway » Wed Nov 11, 2009 8:27 pm

Hey Celtics fan here. Just wondering about Gomes. I loved him in Boston but haven't really followed him in Minny. How has he been? Is he in your long term plans? I heard somewhere you might not pick up his option in effort to get a max contract under the cap, is that true? Also what kind of money will he get on the open market. If he ever leaves Minny I hope Boston locks him up, hes just such a pro.

There are some people speculating that we would drop his option if we can sign a Joe Johnson (we'd need that cap space). I think it's far more likely that the Wolves will trade him for cap space and a pick at the trade deadline to a contender.

I do not think he is in our long term plans, but he's been a solid player for us and most Wolves fans like him.

I would agree this seems the most likely. I wonder how TOR would feel about the following:

Gomes for Amir Johnson + TOR 2011 1st round pick (top 3 protected)

Would be more like top 16 protected, then top 14, then....But it's the right idea :)

I think Dallas is trying to trade Josh Howard, and getting Gomes at SF would make it much easier to trade him. Or heck, Gomes to Boston for cap space (Scala?) and their 2010 1st round pick would be an option as well.

he could be creating mismatches left and right, but he has yet to develop a face up drive and some elementary post moves to take advantage. So instead of being a versatile SF/PF like Outlaw, he's a tweener.

I think the protection would depend on how confident they are in keeping Bosh around. If he stays then top 3 is irrelavent, as they would plan on being a playoff team.

Gomes is a good guy coming of the bench.

Doesn't have the potential to be starter on any team that wants to compete, though.

Funny guy. I'd always keep him around.

Cleveland made the NBA finals with Sasha Pavlovic, Drew Gooden, and Daniel Gibson starting.
The Lakers had Derik FIsher starting in, um, multiple finals.
Gomes is good enough to start on a championship caliber team if he's got championship calibur #1 and #2 options. I think people vastly overrated what "starter" means in the NBA. There are 5 starters on a team and 30 teams. I'd say Gomes is a top 150 player in the NBA, and there are 150 starters by definition.

How does Scalabrine, Walker and a your late 1st sound? You'd also clear an extra roster spot, if you wanted to bring in another guy for the vet min.

I expect to catch a lot of heat for this....

but i think Gomes is the most complete player on our roster right now. He is not an all-star by any means, but he is a good all-around glue-guy that can play the 3 or 4, beyond that he is great in the community/lockerroom. I don't expect to see him in the longterm plans of the Wolves, but I would like to see him get a reasonable contract and stick around. He is definitely a rotation guy, not a star. He serves his purpose.

and he is a player i am for sure about... most players on our squad are complete question marks at this point to the direction we are heading in, what we want to do, and who fits the coaching staff/plans that we have. he is one player who will contribute and be able to play with the direction we are headed.

I wouldn't mind bringing Howard in, id even trade Brewer/or Gomes + Cardinal + Blount for McGrady + pick

Too old, too high, too knuckleheaded, too expensive.

I'd really like to see us package Gomes with Sessions for a team trying to shed a starter and their contract. I think that Gerald Wallace fits the criteria and he might be this seasons Kwame/Gasol move (not as in All star to a contender for peanuts, but as in All star caliber for expiering deals or cheap talent).

I would do that deal in a second. If Walker has any NBA potential he is not going to realize it in Boston, the pick will be so late we could just buy one at that point and Scal is Scal. We could probably take him back if you cut him.

Can Boston trade their 1st round pick? They didn't have one last year.

The Stepien Rule is that you can't owe picks so that you have no 1st rounders for the next two years.

Last year doesn't matter after the draft.

I'm starting to hate Gomes...He has been pretty bad this season. Could we ship him to New Orleans, they need a shooter and they are trying to get better anyway possible...Julian Wright with a pick maybe? I'm sure they would need to send more salary this way..

Daren Collison, Julian Wright, Devin Brown, and a 1st for Gomes works. And their 1st could be worth something next year.

Collison is a 3 year contract though.

Idk if we have any room for Collison really, maybe a 3 team deal could be worked our for someone needing a pg.
