Your on. This is my absolute last thread that centers around Ariza and Jefferson (I promise).

Min In: Lee Ariza Cook Dorsey
Min Out: Jefferson Gomes

16,802,635 cap space. Rudy Gay would be ours.

NJ In: Landry
NJ Out: Lee

They already got CDR, plus they don't seem too high on Lee. http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=962366&start=15.

Hou In: Jefferson Gomes
Hou Out: Ariza Cook Dorsey

One of the best front courts in the NBA.

I'm not a big fan of Ariza, and he's the big piece that we'd be getting for Jefferson.

you always want to get Top Players for secondary ones.

We are giving up a top player = Jefferson for secondary ones.

We want to go the other way. Give up a bunch of secondary expiring contracts to get a top player.

If you want to trade a guy like jefferson, package him with some of our secondary to get a superstar like chris paul, though I'd prefer to keep Jefferson and offer one of our other top talents.

would we really need Gay if we already had Ariza?

We're not trading Jefferson for Ariza straight up. We're gaining Ariza, Lee, and 5.3 million dollars in cap space (we can make an offer Memphis will refuse). We gain the 3 point shooting team we have lacked (we are the worst 3 point shooting team in the NBA). plus we have a more balanced roster and gain depth (your in good shape when Sessions, Lee, Hollins, and Brewer come off the bench).

Gay=offense and Ariza=defense basically. Depending on who they play just have Ariza defend James, Bryant, or Wade while Gay will have an easier time defending Parker, Artest, or Beasley.

We hold the rights to this team assuming we acquire Cole Aldrich & we have enough money to sign Rudy Gay. (I think we should be able to afford him with 16.8 million dollars in cap space).

Ariza and Lee are both highly overrated IMO. So I wouldn't do it. At least not for Jefferson.

We'd definitely be able to afford him. As I understand it, the maximum starting salary for a player with four years of experience (like Rudy Gay) is 25% of the cap or, at a cap of 52 million, 13 million dollars

So, what this trade comes down to is taking a massive talent downgrade from Jefferson to Ariza fro the opportunity to vastly overpay Rudy Gay when we really don't even have to.

When stating the package we receive, you must include Lee, Ariza, and the 5.3 million in capspace that comes with it :) I think a lot of people here are uncertain if we can make an offer that Memphis would be unable to refuse (nobody knows the cap, but I'm skeptical), and we can make a top heavy contract offer that would make it impossible for Memphis to match. Personally I'm thinking anything more than 12-12.5 million a year is enough to make Memphis cringe. If that's the case, I bet we can sign another player. Just a name I'm throwing out there, but Camby?

OT, would we also be able to use the MLE?

That team would remind me of the 2003-2004 Pistons, without the Rasheed Wallace temper tantrums and a very solid bench. Best part is our starting roster next year would be between the ages of 21-25.

Oh, and nobody told me about how NJ or Hou fares.

Houston fares great. NJ fares ok.

We sell very low on Jefferson and don't fare well.

Just my opinion.
