x-ray has not been taken yet, but the trainer team pre-estimate his condition to be a fractured patella on his left knee.
If confirmed, surgery will be needed, this will be a season ending surgery, and could require more than a year for full recovery for someone who just had microfracture surgery on the same knee

you gotta feel sorry for the big guy

McDyess' injury from NY then. Hopefully Oden has an easier recovery time, Dice had a bitch of a time getting that knee to heal, it was a nightmare.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP)—Portland center Greg Oden(notes) will likely miss the season after fracturing his left patella during a game against Houston on Saturday night.

Oden will undergo surgery, the Trail Blazers said.

The 7-foot center dropped to the floor clutching his left knee and grimacing after colliding with a driving Aaron Brooks(notes) midway through the first quarter.

He was almost immediately surrounded by trainers and physicians. The crowd at the Rose Garden stood and chanted “Oden! Oden!”

The game was stopped for some 7 minutes. Finally, Oden was gently moved to a stretcher and wheeled from the court. He underwent an MRI shortly thereafter.

Oden, the No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA draft out of Ohio State, has been plagued by injures for his entire NBA career.

The 7-footer missed rookie season after undergoing microfracture surgery on his right knee. Last season, Oden sat out six games after injuring his right foot in the season opener against the Lakers, then missed 14 games after the All-Star break with a bone chip in his left knee. He finished the season averaging 8.9 points and 7 rebounds.

Oden lost weight during the offseason and was averaging 11.7 points and 8.8 rebounds this season as a starter.

The Blazers have been beset by injuries. Starting forward Nicolas Batum(notes) needed shoulder surgery just before the opener. Fellow forward Travis Outlaw(notes) fractured his foot in mid-November and required surgery.

Forward Rudy Fernandez(notes) was out of Saturday night’s game with sciatic pain and set to undergo an MRI. It was uncertain if he would be with the team on an upcoming four-game road trip starting with the Knicks on Monday.

Even coach Nate McMillan was set to undergo surgery Monday after rupturing his right Achilles’ tendon during practice.

The coach was participating in practice because the team is so short-handed. He will miss the team’s upcoming road trip, replaced by assistant coach Dean Demopoulos.

wow Portland is really cursed for demolishing the wolves with that Roy/Foye trade.....

their injury list is now

C Oden
F Pendergraph
F Outlaw
G Mills
F Batum
G Fernandez

and their coach too...........?

its kinda weird to hear that a coach is injured with a rupturing right Achilles’ tendon....

Well, you can't expect a 42 year old center's legs to hold up in the NBA.

It makes me wonder what we could get by tossing them some useful players on decent contracts:

Assuming they send Andre Miller to a third team, I think that they might like:

1. Sessions to pair with Blake at PG
2. Gomes to pick up minutes opened up by Outlaw's injury
3. Hollins as filler since Pryz can't cover all the center minutes, and they don't need a scorer.

I personally think Rudy Fernandez is overhyped, but I wonder if these three useful non-stars would be enough to get him + expirings? Moreover, we're netting $9.3 mil in 2010 cap space

Tough break for the big guy (no pun intended).

Hopefully he can still have a decent career in the NBA.

I had him on over 50% of my fantasy teams too...bummer.
Pretend sports games aside, good luck and get well, Mr. Oden.
