I have stubbornly never given up on Corey, and I have always felt that if he could average 12-14 points on 40%+ shooting with all of the intangibles he brings that he could be a solid NBA starter.
Over the past 5 games he is averaging 15.2 on 50% shooting, and he's managed to get his shooting percentage up over 40% for the year. I'm not saying he will continue to average 15 ppg on 50% shooting, but who knows, he seems to be really thriving as this team gets more comfortable with its up-tempo style. That, and I LOVE how aggressive he has gotten finishing on the break. The dunk on Fisher speaks for itself, but he has thrown down a number of hammerz lately. I think the return of Love has really helped our fast break game, and Brewer is becoming a legit finisher on the wing. That, and his jumpshot seems to be improving with his confidence.
I know he took and and missed a lot of bad shots early this year, but I think his aggressive new attitude has played a major role in his improvement. I think he had to keep forcing the issue to work through it and build his confidence. I, for one, like the idea of him as a long-term starter if he continues to improve, because his intangibles, energy, defensive intensity, combination of length and quickness, are things that can't be taught and things that compliment the rest of our roster very well. Rambis seems to have a lot of faith in Brewer, and he should be credited for a lot of Corey's improvement as well. Hoiberg has been working with him on his jumper, and if he develops a consistent stroke he could still become the kind of wing we need on this team.
I guess my point is that I think Brewer has a solid future here, possibly even as a long-term starter due to his defense and intangibles keeping him on the court for extended minutes. The question is what we would need to compliment Brewer if that were to happen. Obviously, we still need a legit 1st option, cold-blooded scoring wing, but if Al is a 2nd option and Love is a 3rd option and Flynn is a 4th option, I think Brewer is a pretty damn good 5th option.
I know some of you still think he's hopeless, but I know some of you still have some faith. Thoughts?

I want him to succeed, cuz dammit when he is on his game he is a very good player to have on your team. High energy, good D, a vicious finisher in open court now, he is great to have next to Flynn and Love. But he just cant seem to consistently produce and his confidence has always been an issue.
Like Foye and McCants before him, if they could just put it together they would be great to have but they are never able to. I'm in his corner cuz i want him to succeed and if we add an athletic, scoring machine wing in the next few years i think he wont be so pressured and can just stick to what he knows. He has a great work ethic and he is still getting better.

His FG% is up because he finally seems to have figured out that he's a lot better off going to the hoop and dunking than shooting a long jumpshot. His shooting isn't really getting much better. However, that's fine...he's been a big part of the jump in our fast break offense and a solid defender(not a stopper yet, hopefully he can get there). I don't know if he's a starter, but I could see him sticking in the rotation.

He's a good energy guy off the bench, I don't know if i want him as a starter on my team though.

I like his mindset when attacking the basket lately. His mid-range jumper isn't too bad either. I'm disappointed with his man-to-man defense though; it's average at best. His off-ball defense isn't really worth it either when he's consistently leaving his man wide open on the perimeter.

Corey is always out of control. Sometimes it works for him, the vast majority of the time it doesn't.

Simple system. Love+Rubio as the multi-talented smart passers, Brewer as the breaking athletic freak., Jefferson scoring/rebounding and wing player B scoring.
btw, you know I love the Brewer love.
I disagree with Deeney. I think he is learning more control and working more in the system. I also think with better offensive guards around him Brewer will look better because he will be the 5th option.

does anyone have any data on how many shots he has taken recently? at the beginning of the season he took 15+ which were too many but for a few weeks I haven't read anyone complaing about the number of shots he has taken so I guess the number has gone down a bit.

The last 3 games he had 16, 13, and 15 FGA. He has taken below 7 FGA only twice this month.
Something i noticed when looking at his game logs, anytime he attempts double digit shot attempts and makes around 50% of them we win.
W - SAC: 9-16, 20 pts
W - UTH: 8-15, 22 pts
W - UTH: 6-12, 12 pts
W - DEN: 6-10, 16 pts
The only time he did this and we didnt win was our first game against Denver. He shot 10-18 for 22 pts. Which was Pre-Love and one of the few games our guards outplayed our bigs. So to conclude, Jefferson + Love + good wing play = win. Something everyone here knows.

The status if the Wolves is a perfect situation for Brewer to develop and mature physically and mentally. Yes, Loves return has a direct impact on Brewers success. Yes, PG play has a direct impact on Brewers success. Yes, Brewer is improving his game control.
Still think the physical-side of the game is becoming less of an obstacle for him ... he changing his way from trying to adjust his shot and avoid contact to a more confident slasher and attacker. The type of spacing in Rambis offense favors guys Love to pass and Brewer to slash ... Add in a legit SG and we'll perform pretty well - not sold on Ellington, but I do like his future as a quality reserve.
I do sense a quicker pace when Gomes has been out ... great person, but I still do not like his passive style and slower pace of play.

Wow, Brewer continues to impress. These last 2 games have shown that he can step up when no one else does. He should still never be more than a 4th or 5th option, but as a 4th or 5th option I think he's showing that he can handle that role very well. His energy has always been his gift to basketball, and it seems like he's finally starting to harness that energy and turn it into production. I, for one, am really happy for him and excited to see where he takes his game throughout the course of this season.

Deeney does have a point. Brewer does seem to get out of control more than the typical NBA player. Still, he's vastly improved in that area compared to his rookie season. To me, he seems like a cross between Rickiy Davis and AK47. He's been fun to watch this year.
I cringe every time he gets the ball on a fast break (I flashback to him getting stuffed by the rim, then missing the putback attempt horribly). It always seems like he takes off from too far away, but then he throws it down with some violence, as if he's trying to punish the rim for making him look like a fool a couple years ago.

He seems to be collecting himself before he shoots now. Much more in control. That's a lot easier because defenses have been daring him to shoot. That said, I hope he keeps it up. Last night was a good example of how much better our team is with some capable guard play.
Props to the Brewer supporters. I was one that didn't even want to pick up his option, but it looks like that might have been a good decision after all.

He's played very well lately. I've been a huge criticizer of him, but am happy to eat crow if he can keep this up.

Yeah, I was pretty hesitant about picking up his option, but he really seems to be coming into his own. Some sweet defense and overall capable on offense...12 ppg on 42% from the field. That's all we need out of him. If he could bump it up a couple % and get the 3pt % to the mid 30's, that would be perfect.

I wasn't sure about his option before the year started, I was happy the deadline was extended so we could get a better look at him. Once I got to see a couple games I was in favor of picking up the option, due to his activity level and athleticism. Hopefully his play since Love's return is an indication that the rest of his game is rounding out.
