Kahn to Stand Pat through Trade Deadline?

"I haven't made one trade call since we started the regular season," Kahn said Monday. "I really feel the players we have deserve to be evaluated on a season-long basis. I would be content if we don't make a move."

Not surprised....Kahn's preached development this whole time. Development is harder when players are being shipped in and out.

I'd honestly be shocked if he didn't do anything at all. It's not like there aren't positioning for the draft/next year type trades available without pulling off a blockbuster.

OK, I'm more composed now. All of it isn't bad:

Pioneer Press wrote: As the Timberwolves' losses add up this season, vice president of basketball operations David Kahn shares in the disappointment with his coaching staff. But he's not ready to activate a quick-fix plan. Kahn is holding firm on his preseason objective to avoid major trades to generate immediate improvement.

Good. Blowing all our assets to wind up in the middle and lose our pick is a direction I agree with, unless it'd be for a major impact player we could grow with.

Pioneer Press wrote: Kahn told the media and fans in personal letters that the organization's game plan is to build for the future and have at least $15 million to $20 million in salary cap room in the summer for a high-quality free agency pool led by Cleveland's LeBron James, Miami's Dwyane Wade and Toronto's Chris Bosh. A trade could have an impact on the Wolves' cap room, and Kahn doesn't want to do anything to hurt future free-agent shopping

Good to not add salary, but $15-to-20 in cap room? If I estimate $4.5 mil for pick cap holds and a salary cap at $53, we've only got $9.5 mil mil right now. Does this mean Gomes is gone? He's the one guy that Kahn's had plenty of time to evaluate, as opposed to the newer arrivals of Sessions and Hollins. Or/and Brewer? He's seen him, but he just signed him to that extension. I don't see $15-20.

In a totally off-topic aside, speaking of a Gomes trade, I see the Celtics recalled Bill Walker from the D-League, which would make him eligible to be included in a trade.

Of course he is holding on to Blount just in case.

I agree we should make a few changes. We should tell Boston that if they want Ryan Gomes, they have to take ChuckSasha.
MN in
Tony Allen
Bill Walker
Joakim Noah

Chicago in
Glen Davis

Boston in
Ryan Gomes
Sasha

I don't see any reason we should make a move unless it's for a pick or a young guy with potential and get rid of Gomes, possibly Sessions if its a good enough deal.

I'm glad thats his stance.

Stay the course....draft Evan Turner

get another solid player with the second 1st round pick.

Bring in a quality FA or two

win 20+ more games next year then we do this year.

Its not going to be were great next year...this is going to take at least 2 seasons.

I wouldn't mind taking a crack at Phillys pick + Dally for expirings and maybe the Bobcats pick.

That would push us to the 2011 FA market, but Dally could work as that 3rd defensive big we need and that pick may turn into something great.

Yeah, I would do that (but not with the Bobs pick) or a trade with Utah for Kirilenko and the NY pick (but maybe also give them their pick back).

Ryan Gomes for Tony Allen + Bill Walker + 2011 BOS pick

.. is a deal that has received some support here and on the BOS board.

I'm not sure that there are. The only thing that I could think of is Gomes for cap space.

I'd do this if available but Philly's not really a team you'd expect to unload major assets to save money. If anything, I think we'd have to take on Brand.

FAIL. The Wolves don't have to "tank" to end up with a good draft pick. There's a definite lack of talent on the team. Great building pieces, but that's pretty much limited to 4-5 guys. There's nothing the Wolves could do to put a legitimate contender on the court. We could maybe put together a play-off team for this season, but it would be royally screwing the team's future over, and it would be a slim chance at best. More luck than there is in the world to pull that off.

Stern doesn't authorize Grand Theft Trade for teams like the Wolves.

Wolves have played better w/o Gomes than with him.
