MIN - NOH pick?

NOH GIVES: MoPete ($6 mil) + NOH 1st
MIN GIVES: Wilkins + OPec ($5.2 mil)

NOH pick is currently in the #10-13 range, 3 games from the final playoff spot in the West.

NOH saves $0.8 mil this year, and $6.4 next year, doubled to about $14.4 million. Losing the pick and MoPete's salary gets the Hornets to within about $2 mil of the lux threshold next season. They actually get more productive players this year.

MIN gives up $6.4 mil of its 2010 cap space for a late lottery pick, and a few more balls in the lottery. MoPete is an expiring next season. Personally I think this is overpaying, especially since it limits our options, but I thought I'd throw it up here.

Interesting idea. If it was in the 10-13 range for sure, I probably would.

MoPete is kind of depressing to have dragging on the roster for a year, but I think I like the direction this trade heads, and it helps us tank for a better pick (very bitter-sweet idea for me, i like wins)

last year we traded away half the picks we got,we already have 3 why do we need more?

it might be different if it was a top 10 pick

but look how many open roster spots we have this year, we should have space for all of them. Assume Stewie won't be brought back and, Sessions and Gomes are always potential trade bait. Leaves just:

Flynn
Ellington
Brewer
Love
Jefferson/Hollins

We can also package two picks to move up into the top 10 for a player we like. I would do that deal for sure.

We traded two picks of the six we had, and we received future picks in return. If we trade picks in this upcoming draft I expect a similar return. I'd actually like for us to do that in years wehave an overabundance of picks, since we'll have to give up our pick to the Clippers sometime in the next few years and it would be nice to have a pick or to in order to mitigate that damage.

If NOH agreed to this trade I'd do it, then use either this pick or the Bobcats pick in order to stash Jan Vesely overseas.

I'm no the fence on my own trade.

Its not like we're paying $7.2 mil in cash for the pick .. we're trading $7.2 mil of the more valuable cap space... plus we lose more cap space with the salary/cap hold of the NOH pick.

If Kahn is still in the mode to collect pieces, then this may be a method to collect a pretty decent piece, locked into a cheap rookie deal for several years. If we geared for 2011 (a dangerous move, since it gives us only one chance to devalue the MIN pick we owe LAC), then we wouldn't have the big free agent salary, and still only have the NOH pick locked in cheap, so that'd be nice. However, with the impending 2011 CBA/lockout, I think cap space may be more valuable in 2010 than ever before.
