1/13 BS Report w/ Chad Ford

Post#1 » by Krapinsky » Wed Jan 13, 2010 5:24 pm

They bash Kahn for a long time. For allegedly shopping Al (Simmons doesn't believe it) and for the Rubio/Flynn draft. Ford is one of these "insiders" that believes everything he reads on the internet and thinks its true. He then bashes Kahn by saying he's probably listening to the podcast to figure out what's going on.

Simmons gives a lot of props for Al and says he wouldn't trade him. Maybe for Granger, but doesn't think Indiana would do that. He said if Kahn traded Jefferson for Martin - one of the five players in the NBA that commands a double team, for a player that doesn't play a lick of defense -- he should be the equivalent of "debarred" for a GM -- in other words lose his privilege to be a GM anymore.

I actually agree with Simmons on something. Al has proven he can score on teams that double and triple team him, while still crowding the paint. That is a ridiculous skill to have at 25. Unfortunately, with the new hand checking rules, most of the game is focused on the perimeter and the NBA is making players like Al obsolete.

Think about how effective he will be with one solid 3 point shooter (Henry?), a wing that can penetrate and dish. If Kahn trades him for somebody that is less than a #2 scoring option or a potential #1, then he should be fired immediately.

Just listened to this... I agree with Simmons view on Al even though he is a huge Al homer. And yeah the bashing on Kahn was a little unnecessary. Whenever Chad Ford tries to bash Kahn I like to re-read his past mock drafts and remind myself how clueless he really is.

Ford/Simmons come across as the same type of morons you'd find on the general board or trade board on realgm.com.

Comments like, "If Kahn trades Jefferson for Martin, he's an idiot" actually hold value to them because now they can convince themselves that Kahn if an idiot, even though he didn't make that trade. They talk themselves into believing Kahn would do something, even though there's no indication he would, and then judge based on their own fantasy world.

But hey, Jessica Alba has low standards because she'd date someone like me.

Simmons is a clown. The problem is, he used to be an amusing clown, but now he's just a douchey clown who is convinced that he is a brilliant basketball mind despite his ideas generally being ridiculous, stupid, or impossible under the CBA. His obsession with the Timberwolves since Kahn was hired just makes him that much more annoying.

Chad Ford...just read some of his stuff. No need to go to any lengths to bash him when his shoddy work speaks for itself.

now I'm getting to the part of the podcast where Bill is suggesting a 3 way trade that lands MN Caron Butler, Tmac, Budinger...for Al Jefferson. Cmon, that's bush league! you can't knock David Kahn then bust out a trade that lands in the top 10 percentile of worst trades you'd find on the trade board

He did the same thing earlier in the summer. When somebody asked him what his plan would be for the Timberwolves if he became GM, he said that the first order of business would be to make a deal along the lines of Foye/Miller/#6 for Tony Parker. He also pimped Rubio before (and after) the draft. Then when Kahn traded Miller/Foye for Rubio, Simmons has bashed him whenever his name comes up.
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''

I agree with a lot of things they said about Al. IMO a trade with him for Martin would be bad. They bash Kahn too much but right now that's easy to do.
When luck shuts the door skill comes in through the window.

That's basically all they were before they hooked up with ESPN.com.

I appreciate the work he's done at ESPN, those podcasts help out my boring work day, but he needs to take a deep breath and back off of Kahn's balls for awhile. He's knocking trades like Foye/Miller for Rubio, then when Ford throws out the Martin/Jefferson idea, instead of saying "wtf are you talking about, that'd be terrible for Minnesota" he launches into a tirade against Kahn like this was a rumored deal in the works or something. But then he busts out really bad ideas, was it last year or the year before where he was saying Phx should trade Amare for Rasheed Wallace or Camby, and now Jefferson for Tmac,Butler,Budinger. He can't keep publicizing these bad trades and trying to spin things like his trades are good and the real ones are terrible because people with any sense are just going to tune out and he's going to be left with a loyal following of absolute imbeciles.

wow that was just ridiculous. Pure speculation and banter. I couldn't even finish listening to that, what a waste of time. They don't know what they are talking about imo.

Before draft.....

Simmons: "Rubio is one of the best PG prospects ever! I <3 Rubio!"

During 2009 Draft Diary (direct quotes)...

Simmons: "A few teams are going to rue the day they passed on Ricky Rubio." "The T-Wolves are on the clock with two straight; hopefully, they're smart enough to take Rubio", "Phew. Sota took him.", "Gotta say, I can't kill Kahn for turning Randy Foye and Mike Miller into Rubio. Nice work. "

After Draft, not being considered for GM job...

Simmons: "Your GM shoulda traded Rubio's rights from Day 1. Now he is playing the blame game. You cannot accept this." "Big mistake trading Foye, turning into a bright young star"

Speaking of Jessica Alba, I'm working on a script for a movie.
