David Khan to chat with fans via web

Post#1 » by Krapinsky » Tue Jan 19, 2010 10:44 pm

JerryZgoda

David Kahn will chat online with fans during #Timberwolves 2nd and 3rd quarters Wed. vs Oklahoma City thru www.foxsportsnorth.com

Pretty neat thing for him to do.

I want to ask him what he'll do if we get the #1 pick and if he says Wall, then I'll wonder what priority he'll attach to the point guards.

I'd like to know that also, but he's not going to throw out names I bet....you know GM's are, even though he's pretty candid, I doubt he'll be that bold.

Isn't he not allowed to throw out names?

Kahn reminds me of a cross between David Stern and Michael McKean.

Does he read RealGM 12 hours a day for inspiration, or does he have one of his minions do it?

That's what worries me. Aside from Spinal Tap, just about every movie I've seen Michael McKean in he's played a total d-bag. I'm not sure that bodes well for us.

He'll be getting a flood of Al Jefferson questions no doubt.

More like, he'll be choosing (or have chosen for him) the lamest of lame questions to answer, and everyone will be disappointed.

You're probably right. But at least our new front office does stuff like this. Makes me feel good as a fan. Even if the transparency is heavily concocted, it's still nice to have transparency.

Eh, I find it insulting. He's just as big of a liar as McHale, if not even more. If I found him believable I would love it.

A GM shouldn't be expected to throw names out there, and state exactly what he's going to do. Most ALL GM's are vague, I don't know what exactly fans expect.....it goes with the territory. If you were a GM, would you blurt out everything you were going to do, or guys you liked?

The one thing that I heard was he was expecting rubio to come over and play this year when they drafted him and was upset when his camp said it would be at least a year. This was all before he was signed by Regal Bar (white lie).

I think I am going to ask him a cap related question no specifics just vauge to gage what moves might be made. I know what I will be working on tomarrow!

Only thing I don't totally understand is that hes doing it DURING the game....Should he be watching? Shouldn't he want us to be watching?

He was never EXPECTED to come over. We drafted him figuring he would stay overseas. Aftewr drafting him, it looked like we had a chance to bring him over, so he tried. Rubio decided to stay and hone his skills.

Questions I could see coming up:

The Kevin Love/Al Jefferson thing....
Would he redo the draft if he could...
Rubio's status...
Gomes contract situation...
Potential cap space...
Draft targets...
Trades in the works....
Triangle/running team...
Kurt Rambis...
Jonny Flynn's development...

I don't know if I would consider him to be a notorious liar (although I suspect we really did try trading for Granger), but I guess the best way of saying it is he talks like politicians in a debate. He doesn't answer the question, just gives some watered down response that you knew was prepared weeks ago. But in the NBA, that's actually a good thing. I don't want Kahn to be that transparent, I want him to hide our strategy. It's my understanding (from the Blazers board actually) that Portland discovered a potential trade between Houston and Minnesota, so they drafted Roy. There is no benefit is showing what cards you have, so we're going to have to be happy with the scraps he leaves us.
