Wolves will only make a modest trade

Minnesota Timberwolves president of basketball operations David Kahn reiterated Sunday that any trades by the team would be modest and he won't include any of the team's core players.
Kahn did admit he could use some depth in the frontcourt.
"No question, we need more length and athleticism on the front line to complement Al Jefferson and Kevin Love," Kahn told the Pioneer Press.

Do you really think that Kahn would show his full hand in a newspaper article? The more he talks like this, the more I think something bigger could be in the works.

Honestly, for this year, that doesn't seem like a priority to me. The Wolves need some perimeter shooters. Let Hollins start a few more games, see if he is "getting it." Then look at Pekovic in the off-season.

I think Pekovic is going to be trade bait. He definitely doesn't compliment Al and Kevin.

far as I'm concerned if Pekovic can play good NBA b-ball and score inside and play PF or C so there's little dropoff when Love and/or Jefferson sit, then he's a great compliment.

I am happy we probably don't have to worry about Al or Love being shipped out. Still,. I don't think a big is our weakest link right now. I would say its a perimeter player, easily.

Trade Orlando - Minnesota : Pekovic's rights x Fran Vázquez's rights

I doubt anything big will go either. We are not going to risk dealing any major players or draft picks unless it's a legit starter.
Outside of Jefferson, Love, expiring contracts, and draft picks - we don't have alot of value. Flynn and Brewer are our next best assets, so I doubt teams will be knocking the door down.

BTW, feb 11, 20:45h CET Barça - Panathinakos (Euroleague). You will can watch Peko vs Vázquez. I supose Kahn already has his airline ticket.

Lobishome,
Do you think Vazquez would come over when Ricky does?

1.) He is playing poker. There are things on the table that could go through, or fall off until this summer.
2.) Vazquez has some messed up family situations that are preventing him from coming over.

I don't know, but Kahn might ask him.
The newspapers (and a lot of basketball's people) was talking bad about his decision of stay in Spain when he was picked by Orlando. He is 26 still, and surely his ass is burning for play in the NBA and to have his second chance.
He is a PF, not strong as Pekovic (2.09/105kg vs 2.10/120 kg), but he is more quick, clever, and has better hands than Peko. And he is more complete.
I can imagine Peko being the backup of the center position, but I can't imagine him more than 10 foots far of the basket. Vázquez can backup the 4 and 5 positions and he can contribute to the team with his own skills. And he has a good compenetration with Rubio.
PS. Rev, It exists a lot of rumours about Vázquez, his personal life and his problems in the national team) but I don't believe none. The fact is he is a really great player and he shows it every game.

I just wonder b/c asset wise, Pekovic is ready to come over so even if we don't sign him, we can use him as trade sweetener pretty easily. If it becomes clear that Vazquez isn't a guarantee to come over then he loses a lot of his trade value.

Well, surely Kahn can ask Vázquez in person the next week, and ask Pekovic and Rubio and Creus (basketball technical chief) and Laporta (Barça's president). Kahn must leave his hawaiian shirt and his sunglasses in Minneapolis because he will have a lot of work in Barcelona.

I hope he is mulling an Iggy + Dally deal. That fills two gaping needs and gives us a big asset to use next year in Dally's contract. As the Bobs play better and better, their pick is not as valuable as it used to be and could be included.

Yeah, hope he plays poker
But I think he's honest

You have to read through the lines
Modest = Doesn't include core players = an Iggy + Daly trade
Need to add length to our front court = Iggy + Daly trade
OKC game webchat -- Kahn on team's biggest need -- "scoring on the wings" = Iggy + Daly trade

I've never been good in reading between the lines in school but I think you are overinterpretating here
