The Hollins starter/Love 6th man overreaction thread

I'm shocked that there hasn't been something posted about how we start winning when Hollins goes in as a starter and KLove starts coming off the bench.

Where's the outcry about how our best player (okay, top two for sure) isn't starting?

Where's the mandatory post about how Jefferson and Love can't play together?

Where's the bwakabwakabwaka about how what we really need is a real center?

I have to say: I'm a little disappointed...

(that's not to say that I'm not lovin' it...)

(pun intended)

Its all been there, done that, so no reason to rehash it.

We know that Love is more effective in shorter minutes. Combine that with the fact that our bench had been nonexistant, so he gives the second unit a go-to guy.

My bad. Missed that conversation. Link? Or was it just in the game threads...

It floating around somewhere. Krapinsky i think it was had a post about Love's shooting %'s are much higher when he plays around 30 minutes as opposed to 35+.

I think it reflects more about having a good 3 man big rotation than it being mandatory that Love comes off the bench. If Hollins doesnt play well in those 2 games we may not win. You can easily insert Love in the starting lineup and plug, i dunno, Pekovic in the 2nd unit and (if he turns out to be the guy people say he is) I think we do just as good.

Its all about rotations and juicing up the 2nd unit i would say.

Eh if it works it's all good. Just sit back and watch the 6th man awards roll in. Hell, they can even ship them with the championships if they need to save postage.

How many sixth men have been bigs averaging double doubles? He would have to be a candidate if he pulled that off.

Hollins is going to drop off at some point, and Love will be back in the starting line-up.

I agree with this except I'm not convinced Pekovic is the right answer as the third big but that's beside the point.

I'm also not convince Love has to be limited to 25-30 minutes to be optimally effective. He was playing 30+ consistently for the first month or two and was beasting. He played 32 the other night and put up 25/9.

Don't know how many but McHale comes to mind first.

Antawn Jamison was the last big to win the sixth man award in 03-04, but he didn't average a double-double. McHale won it twice.

His last bucket scored was at 6:33 in 4th.

Purely fictional until we acquire a legit SG ...

Love as a 6th man is not a problem either way ... Jefferson is a borderline #1 or #2 Forward ... Hollins is realistically a #3 or #4 big. Kahn has also pointed the need for an athletic big man (Amare?) in his recent media blurb.

the key factor is taking away a Pecherov/Hollins/Jawai/Gomes frontcourt out of the equation. If Love has to come off the bench for them to work out a rotation where Love or Jefferson is on the court at all times, then that fine. He played more minutes than Hollins or Jefferson last game.

Well, perhaps you are surprised but I think Minnesota is copying the european basketball : no (few) players plays more than 30 min, it's not important the starting line-up and every teams has a pure center (*).

About Jefferson, it's showed that he is a 4, not a 5 nor 4-5.

BTW, about Love :

Every basketball players of the world play better if they must play 25 minutes than if they must play 35 min. (Confucius 493 BCE)

(*) You know what I'm talking about ..., a tall guy, ugly and grumpy-looking, but good hearted guy when you know him.

In a way, it's a compliment to Love that he's the one guy Rambis thinks can provide the energy they need coming off the bench. When I was a kid, I could never figure out why John Havlicek didn't start, when it seemed like he was the Celtics' 2nd best player after Russell. But he created such havoc for opposing teams coming off the bench that it just worked better that way. Love is similar in that he works best as an energy guy, taking rebounds from everyone else. He just doesn't have Havlicek's motor (nobody else does either), so they need to limit his minutes a bit too.

First I agree, too much has been made of hollins. If he continues to play defense and block some shots than it works out for me. As nice as it is now, I would rather hollins establish some defensive dominance in the paint versus score 12 points a night with 5 rebounds and a block.

Second, I dont agree that Love's best position is 6th man going forward in his career. He is best as a 6th man this season, because AlJeff is on the team. AlJeff is not a 6th man. So if you are gonna take one of our best players and play them off te bench it makes sense that it is Love. If Al Jeff wasnt here, I think Love could start and play 35 minutes a night and be just fine(particularly with a scoring guard and defensive big guy). I think this is just the best use of Love given the other guys on the team.

He doesn't complain about minutes, touches, or coming off the bench.

Kevin Love, you deserve a golf clap.

who cares at this point?

kevin love is still getting his minutes and numbers, so why would anybody be mad at that?

the point of the move wasnt to punish love, it was to light a fire under somebody's ass, and that somebody was hollins..love is a pro, and hes gonna show up and play no matter if hes starting or not..meanwhile a guy like hollins probably needs the motivation to get going

so far its working
