This thread is for speculation. Individual trades that are completed can have their own threads.

The Boston Globe is reporting that Celtics coach Doc Rivers and Bobcats coach Larry Brown have discussed how the two teams can match up in a potential trade.

A team source confirmed the conversations with the Globe.

Charlotte has a surplus of guards, such as D.J. Augustin and Raymond Felton, and they have long been rumored to have interest in Boston forward Rasheed Wallace.

The Bulls are preparing to trade forward Tyrus Thomas prior to Thursday's deadline and the Timberwolves could be a sleeper to land the former LSU star.

Minnesota general manager David Kahn has been researching Thomas and the team has a boatload of assets to use to acquire him.

They have three first-round picks and a host of expiring contracts.

Pure speculation, but an interesting thought. It all depends on what we would have to give up, I would love to have him for the right price. Although I can't see anything happening before the deadline.

unless they want Tucker/Wilkins/Sasha/Stewie/Hollins/Cardinal/Mark + second round options, I don't think the wolves would be willing to part with any of the "talent" aside from Gomes or maybe Sessions. or am i just being delusional here?

Chicago would want expirings only - meaning that any combo of Blount, Cardinal, Wilkins, Stewie, Sasha & Tucker would be acceptable.

Bulls also could add the expiring Pargo to a deal.
First round pick James Johnson has started out slow and could be available. I doubt Bulls want to give up on him this early but he's not untouchable.

If Kahn is a inteligent man then he will not do nothing, or simply he will discard some useless players and make free space. This session is dead for the Twolves and Kahn must preserve his best cards until June after the draft.

I know this is bored, sorry, but the only posible talking points are Rubio and Pekovic, at least until June or at least until the pre-draft lottery, when Kahn will know his 2010 pick's position.

I think the wolves are going to make two trades:

One trade with Philadelphia

MN Outgoing: Kevin Love, Ryan Gomes, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Mark Blount, Brian Cardinal
MN Incoming: Andre Iguodala, Samuel Dalembert

One trade with Chicago:

MN Outgoing: Damien Wilkins, Oleksiy Pecherov, (perhaps one of the late draft picks)
MN Incoming: Tyrus Thomas

This leaves MN with a line-up which features more defense and athleticism at the expense of rebounding (still need an outside shooter):

Al Jefferson - Samuel Dalembert - Nathan Jawai
Tyrus Thomas - Ryan Hollins
Andre Iguodala - Alando Tucker
Corey Brewer - Wayne Ellington
Jonny Flynn - Ramon Sessions

with of course a top 4 first round pick, Rubio and Pekovic still waiting in the wings.

OK, I don't really think this will happen.

yea just read an article about Tyrus Thomas that would be stupid you guys need a scoring guard, or versatile forward or center. I dont think Jefferson/Love can co-exsist. I would trade Jefferson for a center maybe Kaman or some other promising center like Brook Lopez.

I think if we see MIN make a deal, it will be a small one. Most likely we'll use a little of our cap space in a 2-team or 3-team deal to get a look at a prospect, but not make a big commitment.

Keep an eye on the other blockbusters we're hearing rumors about (PHO -Amare, CLE -Zyd, WAS -Jamison, HOU T-Mac, BOS -Ray Allen). All of those teams are over the lux, and our addition may improve a deal and allow us to pick up another small asset.

Kahn is preaching that he'll stay the course until he's had a season to look at his players. However, I think this will become more difficult for him over the next three days for a guy who was such a frenetic trader just six months ago.

I really wouldn't consider T-Mac a blockbuster deal. At this point, he's just another expiring contract.

if T-Mac truly is healed from all his injuries, he could be a very very valuable player. It wasn't too long ago he was the most unstoppable scorer in the league, arguably. He may be in his 30's but his missed out on a log of excess mileage from not playing full seasons and missing seasons. I bet he could still make a dent if giving the ball.

The Nuggets and Rockets made bids for Bulls forward Tyrus Thomas over the weekend, according to Yahoo! Sports. The website also reports league executives are saying the Timberwolves could be a sleeper for Thomas.

Minnesota will probably have three picks in the first round of the 2010 NBA draft and David Kahn is trying to find an athletic forward.

The website suggests Kahn will try to move Al Jefferson this summer for a small forward.

I'd like to trade for Tyrus Thomas. Al Jefferson would look better at Center if he had an athletic PF who can play D. next to him.

+1

Worst case scenario is he gives Kahn and Rambis a different look to try and figure out if Love and Jefferson will work together long term.

I know he's crazy and has attitude issues, but he's still young and a lot of times those things iron themselves out. Rambis, Jefferson, Love, Johnny, all are great characters and would have a good influence on him.

I think his behavior would definitely change being here, and I don't think it should be a concern right off the bat. Look what happened to Zach Randolph. He's now a co-captain and is a great locker room guy. Some players just need a change of scenery.

The sad thing is: Thomas would actually give us more beef in the paint. Put him, Hollins and Pecherov side by side, and I'll bet Thomas is the thickest...(Insert Nate Jawai joke here)

I was thinking about the Thomas thing again. Reread the underlined below:

Wasn't Kahn going to do research on all NBA players? I remember him saying that before the season. Maybe this is just a part of that...

Here's an idea I through on the Bull's board --

Krapinsky wrote:Here's an idea from a Wolves fan (me) --

Cardinal + Utah pick + Bobs pick (if pick is worse than Bulls pick)

for

Thomas + Pargo + Bulls pick (if worse than Bobs pick)

Here, the Wolves get a risk free gamble that the Bulls finish with a worse record than the Bobcats. In that case, the Bulls drop back a few spots in the draft, but pick up another pick.

Thoughts?
