NYK-BOS-MIN

Its amazing that the Darko-Cardinal deal just popped up on the RealGM Newfeed, because I just came up with it independently over on the BOS board.

shrink wrote:I don't think it can be a straight up deal, with Nate being BYC, so it needs to be more than just House and 2nd.

I would suggest that MIN should be in this deal, sending you Gomes, and NYK some additional cap space (and room to wiggle the BYC). MIN gets your 1st (probably 2011 with the cap space), because NYK doesn't want it hurting their free agent plans.

I'll go play with it and get back to you. Any suggestions?

Here's what I came up with:

shrink wrote: BOS GETS: Nate + Gomes
BOS GIVES: Scalabrine + House + Giddens + 1st

NYK GETS: Cardinal + House
NYK GIVES: Darko + Nate

MIN GETS: Darko + Scalabrine + Giddens + 1st
MIN GIVES: Gomes + Cardinal

BOS saves the 2nd, and gets both Nate and Gomes, and gears up for the play-offs

NYK does it because they cut $2 mil from their payroll, plus lux penalties mil in savings and get rid of two head cases.

MIN eats $1.5 mil in payroll and loses Gomes, but gets a late 1st and a look at Giddens. They deal with Nate's BYC issues by waiving Darko.

Wow a trade where we get Scal and Darko. High comedy.

Darko said he was going overseas next year.

No reason to even look - just cut him and be done

I think we need him for the bench as an extra big option so when Rambis is tired of our bigs getting pummeled inside and wants to make mass substitutions, there's somebody over there besides scrawny Stewie and space cadet Jawai

To play cards with Blount.

Seriously though, looking for the least productive expirings should be a priority for a team that is not looking to compete this year. Anyone we offer who's better has more trade value, and we can try to get a little incentive for the future in a deal where both teams benefit.

I'm not sure I'm following the logic of your trade. A late first is unlikely to be as good as Gomes, is there something about Giddens that isn't apparent from his stats? Or are you interested in the first in hopes of combining it with other first's in order to trade up?

You're correct, and I think Gomes is worth his contract (so its a plus for BOS), but he is not worth his contract in additional 2010 raw cap space for MIN. In this deal, we clear the salary, plus get a 1st we can sell or combine to trade up, and I guess a brief look at Giddens,

I see. Well, the the wolves can certainly afford to gamble with their current team. I guess it does make sense to risk losing a medium good player in hopes of landing someone who can make a difference.

I think Bill Simmons would have a heart attack with that.

I'd like to get more for our expirings, but since that isn't likely this would be okay with me.
