If we could parlay the DET pick and the CHA pick to get into the top 5, I would probably do this. Then if we get unlucky and get, say, pick 4 with our pick, we could use those picks to possibly trade up into the top 2 and grab Turner or Wall. If not, we have Wes Johnson, Derrick Favors and a more cap relief at the end of next season.

So my answer would be yes, with a maybe.

I voted "prefer Jefferson"

HOWEVER, this might be a deal I consider if Jefferson shows no positive signs the rest of the year. Prince is a vet presence who I feel would fit well in the triangle. He would also take some pressure off Brewer on the defensive side of the ball.

With the Detroit pick, try to target Aldrich if he falls, or Whiteside. (Assuming a wing is picked with our own pick)

If that pick is unprotected, I think I would. It sits at #7 and they are even in NY with wins.

They would probably want to put top 3 protection on it though

My interpretation of this thread was that it would be post-lottery, and the pick would be 8-10

What about Kirilenko + NYK 1st for Jefferson + Hollins?

With Paul Millsap geared to take over the PF spot in Utah, I doubt it.

My initial reaction to Prince and the Det pick for Al was a pretty solid no, but I was thinking about it more earlier and I'd probably do it.

Prince is a guy with championship level experience who could step in and be a good veteran presence from day one. On top of that, he's expiring, so his contact would have less of a long term impact on the team than Jefferson's (could be extremely important with the upcoming CBA).

On top of that, the Detroit pick would put us in the draft range needed to pick up either Cole Aldrich or Hassan Whiteside, which will more than likely be important because Hollins isn't starting material and I seriously doubt that Darko will be in the NBA next season.

I bet we could get a third team involved so we could get another first round pick.

Please don't forget to vote, not just post, so we get a true sampling of the MIN opinion. I should add that this is not my trade.

The deal is straight up. It shouldn't be perceived a a three-teamer, or what we could get next, or that the pick is unprotected and could be top 3. Its simply Jefferson for Prince and pick #8-10.

Dumars laughs and then hangs up the phone. Now if the Bobcats pick is added this has legs. Allowing the Pistons to still draft a def bigman makes this deal interesting from a Detroit side. Since most bigs between 8-20 are about the same value the trading down is not so bad.

personaly I would have to replace Prince with Rip and I still dont like it. No disrespect to AL who is a great player but hes the missing piece to a title for Detroit.

The talent/value gap between Jefferson and Prince is significantly more than the gap between #15 (approximately where the Charlotte pick will fall) and Detroit's pick. You even said yourself that the talent pool is pretty much a wash beyond the top handful of prospects in the draft, so the Wolves giving up Jefferson for Prince for a slightly upgraded pick is nonsensical at best.

If the Wolves were giving up the Charlotte pick in such a deal, I would want Austin Daye coming back at least.

Firstly, if he's the missing piece they should be willing to sell the farm no?

Secondly, I'd do that deal although personally I'd prefer Jerebko.

I'd prefer Jefferson, but it's tempting given his level of play recently. Jerebko and the pick would be great, but Detroit would want more.

As the trade is structured I say no. However, it could be made into a 3 team trade. Prince has no value to us, but there are contenders that would value him, so maybe a 3 team deal would work. Early in the year it would have been a definite no, but Al Jefferson is just killing his value.

Maybe a 3 team with Det/Mem like this:

MN gets Det pick, Rudy Gay (sign and trade)
Det gets Jefferson
Mem gets Prince, Sessions (their cap space makes up difference)

I think we could sign Sergio Rodriguez this summer as a cheap backup to replace Sessions. He's restricted, but the Knicks wouldn't waste the cap room. Plus when Rubio comes over Sergio could mentor him.

I take Prince plus the pick.

Al just doesn't seem like a good fit for this offense or for the direction that Kahn and Rambis say they want to take this team. Worse, this offense as well as the positives that Milicic and Love bring to the table make Al's deficiencies stand out and probably more than they should, imo -- which lowers his trade value further.

I know there's the knee thing. I know we may be selling low right now. I just don't think we'll get a better deal by waiting to see if Al can improve his trade value ... with this system, this coach and this team, I don't see that happening -- healthy knees or not.

Dumars laughs and then hangs up the phone.

after Isiah tells him he wants to GM the Clippers.

Big Al + #15 >>>>> TP + #8-10, no way we include a good pick with him.

I don't like this trade idea. Aldrich or Johnson probably won't be there at #8-10.
If we have to trade Al I would rather target a trade with NJ (if pick #3-4), GS, UT (NY pick) or IND and make sure we can get either Johnson or Aldrich with the pick.

I'm neutral right now.

If Al shows signs that he can return to old form over the last 20 games of the season then it's a pretty obvious now but if he doesn't I'd have to think about that.

What I like about the pick is that it's high enough to steal the leftover of Aminu, Johnson, Aldrich, Whiteside and Henry.

Trading Al and getting a pick to potentially even out this roster is a huge plus. Darkos limited time here demonstrates the need for a legit big man. if we could land Turner and Aldrich I would say that in itself is a pretty good off season. Prince not sure what he would contribute... Playing two rookies a lot of minutes next year won't improve our record that much but in the long run it's a huge plus.
