Brewer on JH's most improved list

Post#1 » by GopherIt! » Fri Mar 5, 2010 2:58 am

Good news everyone!

Brewer made Hollinger's Most Improved List. More importantly, several years ago I logged onto AOL and it's just got through - we're online!

"Brewer might be the most improved shooter in the league. Or the most improved shooter ever, for that matter. Here's a stat that will floor you: As of Jan. 7, he'd made 23 3-pointers his entire career. Since then, he's made a triple in 27 consecutive games -- breaking Minnesota's franchise record. As you might imagine, the improved stroke helps his other numbers, too: Brewer averaged 15.6 points on 47 percent shooting in February.

Timberwolves coach Kurt Rambis told me that Brewer's balance was the key: Brewer had been leaning back or to the side too often as he went up for his shot, and the Wolves had worked with him on going forward toward the rim as he launches. Apparently it's worked; he's made 43.1 percent of his 3s during the current streak, and a shot opponents once happily conceded to him now shows up on their scouting reports."

The professor is back!

When I heard the Mavs announcers say to watch for Brew late in the 4th cuz he is a 3pt threat, i damn near shed a tear. so proud of him and I was one of his skeptics. Note I was a skeptic, not doubter, though I will happily eat some crow, salt please!

I'm really looking forward to the new episodes of Futurama. Despite the somewhat poor quality of the movies, I remain optimistic.

On-topic: Cool.

Let me just say that I predicted his improvement back in August

He proved me wrong. That good ole pessimism works like a charm. It's amazing how learning how to shoot and not spazzing out while attacking the rim improves your game. Who woulda thunk it?

don't feel too bad yet, while he's made a big improvement, he's mostly gone from non-rotation player to rotation player - he still has more to prove before he's an impact player. And before Klomp tears a rotator cuff patting himself on the back, Ariza is shooting 38% and with the trade for Kevin Martin, doesn't really make much sense financially w/ Battier and Budinger on the team.

At this point Ariza would be an insult to Brewer. Ariza's value came from being a 5th-6th option behind guys like Kobe and Gasol. And as Phil said, Ariza's not a 35mpg player. He was a 25-30 hustle guy who could fill a stat sheet when no one was concerned about him.

I have been very happy with Brewer and his 180 personality adjustment. I was very harsh on him; he seemed timid and unsure of himself and nothing like the Final 4 Most Outstanding Player we thought we were drafting, but now he's confident and assertive, he's dunking on people and breaking orbital sockets. I love it.

Watching Corey improve in-season makes me feel really confident in the coaching staff's abilities. I'm just picturing them working with Turner on his perimeter shooting next year and transforming him into Brandon Roy.

I always had faith in him. Took a ton of (jw) heat for it, but always had faith.

I wrote him off too early. Now he's my favorite Wolf.

Sometimes you're right, sometimes you're wrong. I was one of the first to write off Foye and McCants. Looks like I was more or less right about those two. Not the case with Brewer. Now if he could just tighten up his handle...

To be fair though, neither Foye or McCants had the same supporting coaching staff that Brewer now has. I mean how many stories came out about the coaching staff working with either of them?

I think Brewer gets most of the credit. He put in the extra effort and has the right attitude that Foye and McCants didn't.

I don't know if Foye ever had a bad attitude, just came in with unrealistic expectations and a situation that didn't benefit him. I mean they drafted him then signed Mike James that offseason.

One of McHale's moments of brilliance for sure.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
