Krap's Wolves' Offseason Game -- PICK A WINNER (POLL)

Post#1 » by Krapinsky » Thu Mar 25, 2010 5:23 am

Rules:

Below there will be several decisions to make. You are free to make decisions with regard to free agency, the draft, and trades, but ONLY AMONG THOSE OPTIONS OFFERED. You cannot make up your own trades. You cannot choose different players to draft. You can not sign players deemed unattainable. You have to do your own math to stay under the cap, but numbers will be heavily rounded to make this very, very simple. I suggest you read through once and evaluate all the options before making choices. The number in bracket, i.e. (5) is the players cap value. The projected salary cap for the game will be (55).

After each participant has shaped his 2011 roster we can do a poll to see who did the best job.

_______________________________

2011 Salary Cap = (55)

Beginning Roster:

Jefferson (13)| Love (4) |Sessions (4)| Flynn (3)| Rubio Cap Hold (3) |Brewer (4)| Hollins (2)| Ellington (1) |Gomes (4) |

Total: (38)

___________________________________

Round 1 = Draft

At the draft lottery the Wolves were represented by the man, David Kahn himself. The Wolves were once again unlucky and ended up with the #3 pick. They also received the Bobcats pick #17 and the Utah pick #25. At the draft Kahn tries to wheel and deal, but to no avail. He offers Flynn and the #3 pick for the #2 pick, but is turned down by New Jersey picking second who really want Turner.

Kahn is however presented with two trade offers, which are mutually exclusive --

(1) Option 1: Trade #25 and #17 to Houston for #14
(2) Option 2: Trade #25 and #17 to OKC for #21 and #22 and #32
(3) Option 3: Keep #25 and #17

Rules: For this round you are required to draft players using one of the three options. Assume the draft occurs exactly as draftexpress.com predicts. Thus, Wall is #1, Turner is #2, and Cousins is the first player available using the Wolves pick at #3 and so on. At #14 Henry would be the first player available. At #17 it is Alabi.

Once you make your picks, add the pick values to the roster total above (38) based on the following values:

Pick #3 = (4)
Pick #14 = (3)
Pick #17 = (2)
Pick #21 = (2)
Pick #22 = (2)
Pick #25 = (1)
Pick #32 = (1)

At the end of round one your salary cap value will range between 45 and 47.

___________________________________________________________________________

Round 2 = Team Options

Gomes' team option is up. You now have to make the decision of whether to keep Gomes or not. Unfortunately no team will take him in a trade for a straight salary dump.

(1) Option 1: Keep Gomes (0)
(2) Option 2: Pick up team option and cut Gomes (-3)

At the end of round two your salary cap value will range between 42 and 47.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Round 3 = Trades

The following trades have been proposed to you. You can elect to chose one for each Wolves player listed. Or you can elect to trade none at all.

a) Big Al trades

Option 1: Tayshaun Prince (10) and [Ed Davis or Greg Monroe] (4) for Big Al (You get to choose unless you already picked one of them at #3, then no choice and the other player is offered) = total ( +1)
Option 2: Luol Deng (12) and TaJ Gibson (1) for Big Al = total (- 1)
Option 3: Monta Ellis (11) for Big Al = total (-2)
Option 4: Keep Al = (0)

b) Ramon Sessions trades

Option 1: Straight salary dump (- 4)
Option 2: Keep Sessions (0)

c) Kevin Love trades

Option 1: Wes Johnson (- 1) or Aminu (- 1) [If either player was chosen at #3, then only the other is available here]
Option 2: Jeff Green (3) + BJ Mullens (1) = total (0)
Option 3: Keep Love = (0)

At the end of round three your salary cap value will range from 37 to 42
-------------------------

Round 4: Free Agency

This round is tricky. You are allowed to sign any of the following free agents at their assigned values. You cannot go over 55. You must have a total of 13 players after this round.

Random D-Leaguer (.5) (as many as you want or is necessary to fill roster spots)
Rudy Gay (14)
Manu Ginobilli (10)
Josh Howard (8)
Josh Childress (6)
Al Harringotn (6)
Anthony Morrow (5)
Ronnie Brewer (5)
Mike Miller (5)
Nikola Pekovic (4)
Darko Milicic (4)
Travis Outlaw (4)
Chris Duhon (3)
Earl Watson (3)
Steve Blake (3)
Craig Smith (3)
Dorell Wright (3)
Hakim Warrick (2)
Damian Wilkins (2)
Brain Cardinal (1)

At the end of round four you cannot have more than (55). You also must have between 13 and 15 players.

____________________________________________________________

Present your team as follows (not mine, just a sample):

Start (38)

Round 1:

Option 3: Favors (4), Avery Bradley (2) , Solomon Alabi (1)

Round 2:

Option 1: Gomes (0)

Round 3:

Al: Option 1: Prince (10) + Davis (4)

Love: Option 3: Love (0)

Sessions: Option 2: Sessions (0)

Round 4:

Sign: Childress (6), Milicic (4), Mike Miller (5)

Roster:

Flynn (4)/Sessions(4)/Rubio (3)
Brewer(4)/Ellington (1)/Bradley (2)
Prince (10)/Miller (5)/Gomes (4)
Love (4)/Davis (4)
Favors (4)/Milicic (4)/Hollins (2)

Total = (55) and 14 players

This likely isn't what Kahn/Rambo do but what the heck. Defense wins chips so:

Start (38)

Round 1:

Option 1: Favors (4), Xavier Henry (3)

Round 2:

Option 2: cut Gomes (-3)

Round 3:

Al: Option 2: Deng (12) + Gibson (1)

Love: Option 3: Love (0)

Sessions: Option 2: Sessions (0)

Round 4:

Sign: Milicic (4), Childress (6)

Roster:

Flynn (4)/Sessions(4)/Rubio (3)
Brewer(4)/Henry (3)/Ellington (1)
Deng (12)/Childress (6)
Favors (4)/Love (4)/Gibson (1)
Milicic (4)/Hollins (2)

Total = (52) and 13 players

Once Rubio comes over, the first unit is a defensive beast. Second unit has nice balance. Childress provides nice backup insurance in case Deng hurts himself again. Maybe to add more offense to the starting unit, switch Love for Favors and have Favors back up both PF and C positions. Oh, and I save Taylor $3 million to boot*.

Start(38)

Round 1:

Option 3: Favors(4), Sanders(2), Bradley(1)

Round 2:

Option 2: cut Gomes (-3)

Round 3:

Al: Option 4: Keep Al = (0)

Sessions: Option 2: Sessions (0)

Love: Option 1: Trade for Wes Johnson(-1)

Round 4:

Sign: Pekovic(4), Milicic(4), Outlaw(4)

Roster

Flynn (4)/Sessions (4)/ Rubio (3)
Brewer (4)/ Ellington (1)/Bradley (1)
Outlaw (4)/ Johnson (3)
Jefferson (13)/ Favors (4)/Sanders (2)
Milicic (4)/Pekovic (4)/ Hollins (2)

Total = (53) and 14 players

Favors, Johnson, Bradley, and Sanders infuse the team with much needed athleticism. Throw in Travis Outlaw and we'll be the most exciting team in the league to watch. Rubio will have alley oop opportunities all over the floor. Kahn's dream of a breathtaking offense becomes reality. When that's not working we still have Jefferson to lean on for some points in the post. The D is unproven, but on paper it looks like it would be pretty solid. Let the summer league begin.

My bad -- posted this in the wrong thread.

Start (38)

Round 1:

Option 3: Favors (4), Xavier Henry (3)

Round 2:

Option 2: Gomes (-3)

Round 3:

Al: Option 3: Ellis (- 2)

Love: Option 3: Love (0)

Sessions: Option 1: Sessions (- 4)

Round 4:

Sign: Gay (14) Milicic (4) D-League x 2 (1)
Roster:

Flynn (4)/D-League(.5)/Rubio (3)
Ellis (11)/Brewer(4)/Ellington (1)
Gay (14)/Henry (3)
Love (4)/D-League (.5)
Favors (4)/Milicic (4)/Hollins (2)

Total = (55) and 13 players

Neither D-leaguer would get much playing time. Ellis would play some point until Rubio comes over. Favors would play both the 4 and 5.

Rubio on the way, some cap space left and Prince as a large, productive expiring left for trade. We inject athleticism, shooting, size, defense.

Option 3: Cousins (4), Bradley (2), Alabi (1)

Round 2:

Option 2: Gomes (-3)

Round 3:

Al: Option 2: Deng (12) + Gibson (1) = (-1)

Thoughts? I like the starting 5 and Brewer could be a good insurance if Deng becomes injured again. Bradley at the point guard seems like a stretch though. But at least this keeps Flynn with more minutes.

Thanks for playing. Thoughts/Impressions: I would hope/think that the Deng and Gay decisions would be mutually exclusive. You have 4 wings there and none are adept ball handlers. Worm will appreciate Cousins though.

Second unit is young and uber athletic!!! Starting line-up at beginning of season but not necessarily at the end of the season. First team not as explosive as second unit but it would make for an interesting blend of players and overall decent team length.

12 players, 47M. Really only 11 since Rubio is only a cap hold, but theres no point paying 2M+ for the guys available on that list as a 12th man.

Option 1 trade 25 and 17 for 14.
Draft #3 Cousins
Draft#14 Henry
cap-45
Round 2, cut Gomes
Cap-42
Round 3, option 1 Trade Al for Prince and Monroe(+1)
Salary dump Sessions
Keep Love
cap=39
Free agents
Steve Blake, Earl Watson, Mike Miller, Travis Outlaw.

Final Roster
Pg-Flynn-Blake-Watson
Sg-Miller-Brewer-Ellington
Sf-Prince-Henry-Outlaw
Pf-Love-(Outlaw)Cousins
C-Cousins-Monroe-Hollins
I find myself with too many quality players, lol.

This would also give us a nice shooting team, with Outlaw, Miller, Blake, and Henry all coming in being capable 3 point shooters. It would also allow us to make a few more trades to get the roster more balanced, or bring in a potential star in a trade.

I went one vote WildVikesWolves and one vote Krap. I think Kraps team makes the playoffs next year and gets better still with Rubio and experience in following years. WildVikesWolves team has a boatload of potential and could be a great team in the future if you can develop all of these guys.

I went with Da Kid KG and Esohny, but then when I saw that I had a chance to win I switched one vote from Esohny to Krap.

I like Da Kids team though. I like the Favors, Sanders, Bradley draft. Lots of upside there. Then getting Johnson is icing on the cake.

I'm not a fan of the Deng/Gibson for Al deal so I can't subscribe to Clupus' plan.
