Pick Your Poison: Which KD Trade?
Hello, friends.
We all know the deal: Kevin asked out of Brooklyn, and is now refusing to play since Tsai has decided to keep Marks and Nash. We can agree or disagree on the merits of his decision; it doesn't really matter. What matters is whether or not we believe him. Will Durant sit out training camp and even games, to prove his point? I think so, but even if he caves, the mere threat of our supposed alpha quitting on the team has already torpedoed our championship hopes for next season IMO.
So, the big question is: how uncomfortable do we all want to get, waiting for that perfect trade? I know that Gobert netted Utah 5 1sts, and that OKC got a 20yo stud and 4 1sts for George. KD is clearly better than both, but the offers for him don't seem commensurate with his superstar status. Should we wait out the market, and hope a team blinks first at the trading table?
Mobley and Barnes seem untouchable no matter what, so we're looking at the next tier of young stars. I say we hold our nose, close our eyes, and plunge into the brackish trade waters. Send out word to all 29 other teams: your final, best offer on the table by this Friday, and we'll either trade him to someone or we'll shut down trade talks until January 16th. Make a clean break from this era, and move forward as a franchise, rather than making the wantaway legend and ourselves miserable.
If we do this, I see the offers looking like this. Which would you choose, and why:
BOS - Brown/Smart/RWilliams (no picks)
MEM - Jackson/Williams/Bane/23MEM1st
PHX - Bridges/Saric/Johnson/23PHX1st/25PHX1st
TOR - Siakam/Trent/23TOR1st/25TOR1st/27TOR1st
NOP - Ingram/Graham/23LAL1st/24LAL1st/25MIL1st/26MIL1st

My knee jerk reaction was to take the Celtics option. But the more I think about it, I believe the Pelicans trade is our best bet. We would get 4 1sts . Brandon Ingram is one of the top under 25 players and would be good for us long term. Devonte Graham is a solid player and comes locked up with a favorable contract.

That Toronto package is never going to be on the table, so if others are preferred like PHX or NOP, then they should definitely make those deals.

I'll bet it would. I've actually chatted with TOR fans who would be open for Siakam and Anunoby plus picks for Durant, though I don't think Masai would go for that. But Pascal, Gary and picks, I think they would do. Those guys are not spring chickens, and a frontcourt of OJ, KD and Scottie would be formidable.

Re: Pick Your Poison: Which KD Trade?
I'm definitely taking the Celtics trade without thinking. 2 defensive player of the year nominees and Jaylen Brown .. but I know Boston would neeeevverrrr do that. best we get is Jaylen Brown, Smart and the other Williams which is a pretty good package, I just wish we can squeeze a pick out of it. But the Pelicans should looks more realistic and I'll def take that one too.

You have zero point zero chance of getting that package from Boston. Literally none. I wish you the best in your other 3 options tho.

We'll need Brown and Smart and draft picks.

The league should take the following 3 steps.
1. Inform KD that it he refuses to play he will banned from the league for the remainder of his contract.
2. Give Brooklyn back KDs cap space.
3. Create a special draft pick (one time only) at #10 and then make it lottery eligible.
KD would immediately cave as the money in Europe isn’t close to the NBA money. If he doesn’t Brooklyn would be made whole by the addition of a good young player, and have the cap to try and rebuild next year.

Then trade him to Phillythe Celtics don’t have to do a thing. Itll be a quick drive for him up the turnpike. Thybulle and simmons spacing seems ideal
Forget i said that, Philly can't offer picks

Re: Pick Your Poison: Which KD Trade?
I don't think most of these are realistic as listed.
Boston is not giving up Smart or that Williams.
Some of the pick comp is not likely in all deals.
NO and Memphis to top it for me, quickly followed by Boston. All in realistic forms though, so no Smart, swap Williams, etc.

Re: Pick Your Poison: Which KD Trade?
I'm intrigued at the overwhelming support for the NOP. What exactly is it about that package, that appeals to you above the others?
I see Ingram as a worthwhile gamble, but he's certainly not as impactful on wins as his frame and his stats might suggest. He had the length, speed and coordination to be an elite defender, but have not proven to even be average in that regard thus far.
Devonte is a serviceable starter, but again, the defense. And his efficiency cratered in New Orleans; you'd hope that being around a playmaker like Ben brings him back to the %'s he put up alongside Lamelo.
To me, the distinguishing element of this trade proposal is the pick package. The Pelicans don't have the winning pedigree of the other teams, so even with Kevin, they might be surrendering some 1sts in the mid- to late- teens.

Re: Pick Your Poison: Which KD Trade?
I won't add a poll option since the voting has already started, but what do y'all think of the latest Philly rumors?
I'm not a Tobias fan at all, and I don't want to decrease the value of the 1sts that Philly already gave us. But, they could assemble a fairly competitive offer, if they were motivated enough. As much respect as I've lost for Durant already, the fact that he's back channeling to get to Philly makes me respect him even less.
He acted like Harden was his sworn enemy after his antics to give his way out of here, but now he's vacationing and attending concerts with him? He was talking tough to Joel after the Sixers dissed us in our own house, but now he wants to ride Embiid's coattails??? This is not the behavior of an alpha superstar. Make it make sense.

Re: Pick Your Poison: Which KD Trade?
While it’s highly unlikely I selected the Memphis option.
1). Keeps Slither out the East.
2). He goes to a tough Western Conference
3). I like all 3 players that would come back in return. Hypothetically of course.
I really really like the Pelicans offer, but I only make that deal if Herb Jones is thrown into the mix. Not a fan of Graham. Brooklyn needs lengthy defenders. Herb is that guy. Brandon not so much, he would be ask to score.

As good as KD is, I truly believe the celts would be a substantially worse team if they gave up the three players above. If that’s the ask than can’t see the conversation going very long
