Gotta chime in with the 1990s as well.

In 1993, Petrovic died at age 28 after his best season as a Net.

Derrick Coleman (Nets captain and leader) not caring about practice and skipping it. "whoopdedamndo".

Jayson Williams, the Nets lone all-star in the mid to late 90s (98'), has a career ending leg injury at age 31. Then goes on to murder someone.

Stephon Marbury selfish ball, writes all-alone on his sneakers during a game.

Nets trading Kyle Korver for money to buy a copy machine.

Nets not resigning Kenyon Martin (after all-star season) due to money.

Oh, and the ridiculousness of not having a home arena a few seasons between Meadowlands and Brooklyn. Nets had to play in Newark because they had no arena for two season.

Not to mention record. From 1990 to 2001 the Nets had 9 losing. There only winning seasons in the timeframe were barely above 500 and were first round exits.

Yep, literally one season after I became a Nets fan, Drazen passes away during that summer. Ever since then its just been one disaster after another. The Kidd days were the only time we've ever been close to greatness, and that was fleeting and ended with a faked migraine.

Oh yeah don't forget what happened with Shareef Abdur-Rahim. We finally thought we had the missing piece at PF to go with Kidd, Vince, RJ, and Krstic, but nope. Failed his physical.

Brooklyn has been one sh*tshow after another, the only time we haven't looked dysfunctional was Kenny's tenure before Kyrie and KD came in and destroyed everything he had built with Marks.

And people wonder why we have basically no fanbase outside of die hards? This team has given fans next to nothing in terms of fun, joy, and winning outside of a few select years.

You do realize what KD, Kyrie, harden and Ben Simmons are doing/did is the exact same thing Vince Carter did to get you him in the first place, and in fact is the same thing Kawhi did to get to the Raptors.

Essentially you're getting Toronto Vince'd 4 times

MrDollarBills wrote:The franchise is being destroyed across social media by other fanbases and there's literally nothing we can say to defend this piece of sh*t operation any longer. We are a poorly run joke. Doesn't matter who owns it, or who the GM is, the same sh*t results happen time and time again.

You no longer have Billy King, if KD's foot was behind the 3 point line there's a very strong chance that you'd be praising him as an All time great and you'd be stomaching Kyrie much more because you'd probably beat the Suns in the finals.

KD and Kyrie randomly chose your team, was close to getting to the finals but Kyrie was just too much.

Again, you no longer have Billy King, all that's transpired before was his doing. If KD says he's coming to a team, that team is not going to say no.

MrDollarBills wrote:The books that will be written about this period of Nets basketball will probably ensure that no one worth a damn ever steps foot near here for a generation.

Who cares, when you are in the position of winning no one will really care, this will be a footnote. In 5-7 years, no one will care about what KD thinks, you're living too much in the moment.

By the time you're ready to seriously contend again, it won't matter. You'll be surprised about what a decade removed does to a team's outlook.

MrDollarBills wrote:This KD/Kyrie nonsense has all but killed what remaining love I have for this franchise, and has probably killed the appeal of the Nets to fans and players alike.

No one really blames the Nets, this all stems from 4 players who again, acted Like VC did to get traded to the Nets in the first place.

You're not looking bad at VC just like Raptors fans are not looking terribly at Kawhi. They didn't leave on bad terms.

The only thing I would really blame your GM on is the Harden trade, but I understand why he did it.

Also tbh, there's really only like 3 real FA destinations in the league, both LA teams and Miami.

Just giving you some perspective.

One more.

After the Nets made the playoffs in 1998, they desperately needed a center and traded their future first round pick (along with other pieces) for Rony Seikley. Seikley was averaging 16 ppg and 10 rpg in Olrando before the trade and was one of the better big men in the NBA.

I think he played 9 games as Net (average 0.4 ppg) and then retired with a foot injury to become a Hip Hop DJ in Miami.

Oh, fuff.

Remember when Josh Boone was our promising, *home-grown* center of the future?

Because *I DO*.

Question - were there a lot of new fans due to KD and Kyrie joining or was it more or less the same with a little bump?

There's definitely new fans because of them but they're annoying ass kids who keep blaming Marks and Tsai for not licking KD and Kyrie's boots, or not paying Kyrie a max extension. That in itself is another reason that I can't wait til both of them are gone.

All of this!!!

I've been a Nets fan way before this era, and I'll be one long afterward. To each their own as far as his you participate as a fan, I'm ready to wave bye to the 7/11 player Stans.

Next time, we need to hold onto our draft picks and build via the draft. This crap where we're trading for stars or bending over for big free agents has yielded us NOTHING.

I disagree. We'll be better than the DLo playoff team after the Durant and Irving trades. For as drama filled as these 3 years have been, we're still going to be better coming out of it.

I used to be envious of superteams but I'm not sure they work as well as say the 08 celtics or the heat team which was too good to be true. I'm sure you guys will build the team up again in no time.

Thanks bud.

Superteams aren't worth it, especially if you hitch your wagons to two headcases like Kyrie and Durant, and a flaky fat slob like Harden. Just build organically, otherwise you get disasters like this.

Marcus Williams' best game was that classic we had against Steve Nash's Suns.

Now you want to talk about some fun basketball, that was it.

AFAIK there's only been two superteams that have been worth it, and both cases were extraordinary.

I'm going to say first one was Auerbach's ultra-stacked BOS teams that played in a tiny, one-division league. Organic yes, but also a superteam largely because Auerbach was vastly better than his colleagues at finding talent, a big part of which was simply not being racist like they were.

The other one being the Heatles, but they were also led by a Mt.Rushmore player, played in a relentless, circus-like atmosphere, and even four straight trips and two championships was seen as something of a failure because of how high the stakes had been set. There was also the meltdown against the Mavs, and Riley going ballistic when LeBron left, tarnishing the accomplishments.

Especially not worth it is when the three stars aren't actually serious about winning a championship, and can't even abide having a real HC to coach them.

Return to Brooklyn Nets
