What do you want to do with Kyrie?

Moderators: Rich Rane, NyCeEvO

Do you want Kyrie back on the Nets?

Yes -- I know Kyrie is a little nutty, but I think he's an elite player and I want the Nets to give him a long-term max contract no matter what happens with KD.

Yes, and I'll give him a 4-year contract, but only if it gets KD back here -- I don't love Kyrie, but he is a great player, and giving him the contract is the only way to convince KD to come back, and if we have both of them, we'll be title contenders for as long as they are here, but if we lose both of them, it's all darkness.

11%
Yes, but only if it gets KD back here next season and we only need to commit to Kyrie for next season -- I don't like Kyrie at all, and there is no way I'm giving him a long-term contract, but KD is still great, and the Nets have brought in some reinforcements, and I want to see what the team looks like with KD, Kyrie and a healthy Simmons, Harris and Curry, and if it doesn't work with all of that, we can blow it up next summer.

No -- Kyrie is toxic and destroys everything he touches, and even if KD were to come back with him, the Nets still wouldn't be contenders because no team that relies on Kyrie will ever do anything in the playoffs, and I'd rather lose both guys and trust Marks to rebuild than waste another year and watch KD's trade value decline further.

To be fair, after the fact Kyrie fed Harden's balls to him on a plate in our last game vs Philly

Not to take away from the good training camp vibes, but I really loved Kareem's takedown of Kyrie's reckless foolishness, below.

I'll admit, I find Kareem to be a really sharp 'current events and social issues' writer. Able to precision-bomb his target without getting rantish or overly personal, then moving right on to the next target.

I don't know how many young people and current players follow him, but I hope it's as many as possible. The dude's in a fairly unique position to spit firey facts while having the towering reputation to do so legitimately.

Summary: Kyrie Jones posted on Instagram a 2002 video clip of Alex Jones expressing a conspiracy theory regarding a “New Word Order” out to profit on our misery.

My Take: There is some irony in this news item coming right after the previous one about the miseducation of American youth. Because Kyrie Irving’s thought process is an example of what happens when the education system fails.

Last October, I wrote a piece about Kyrie Irving’s refusal to get vaccinated against COVID-19 (“Should We Just ‘Leave Kyrie Alone?”) and why this reckless choice was destructive to the country and especially the Black community where he would be an influential role model. The facts proved that accusation to be true. Irving didn’t care. He continued to promote his anti-vax sentiments—regardless of the cost in lives and health to others—proclaiming himself a “martyr.” Not kidding.

We might have just left him alone to stew in his own gelatinous ignorance. Rich and famous people get away with saying dumb things all the time because their money isolates them from consequences. They surround themselves with Yes-people whose job is to confirm whatever hare-brained ideas they have. Yes, sir, Mr. Irving, the Earth has never been flatter.

But now Irving is back and more destructive, insensitive, and just plain silly than before. He decided it would be a good idea to post a 2002 video clip from Infowars founder Alex Jones. Yeah, the guy who has been on trial for denying the Sandy Hook shootings and who previously admitted in open court that he’s a performer and his onscreen persona is just a character (that bilks millions of dollars from unaware viewers). The main gist of the clip is a warning about a cabal of international leaders who are secretly releasing plagues on the world from which they can profit. (Of course, we know who really profits from making this claim.)

Alex Jones is one of the most despicable human beings alive and to associate with him means you share his stench.

Kyrie Irving would be dismissed as a comical buffoon if it weren’t for his influence over young people who look up to athletes. When I look at some of the athletes who have used their status to actually improve society—Colin Kaepernick, LeBron James, Muhammad Ali, Bill Russel, Billie Jean King, Arthur Ashe, and more—it becomes clear how much Irving has tarnished the reputations of all athletes who strive to be seen as more than dumb jocks.

Irving does not seem to have the capacity to change, but we have the capacity to keep fighting against his brand of destructive behavior. One way to do that, beyond shaking our heads and nasty tweets, is to write to his sponsors and tell them to drop Irving—or you will drop them. Nike has likely decided not to renew his contract past this season. But he is still sponsored by Pepsi and 2K Sports. (Don’t feel bad for Irving: his career earnings at the end of the 2022-’23 season will be $230 million. That buys a lot of Yes-people.)

They will keep fighting against Kyrie until the end, no matter how many times they've been proven wrong, particularly in this covid situation. They are campaining for him to lose his income, whether it's NBA contract, sponsors, everything. People like Stephen A Smith and Kareem Abdul Jabbar are a part of the same agenda and Kyrie knows that very well. They want to teach Kyrie a lesson by taking away his money, but he will never sell out.

So Stephen A. said yesterday that Kyrie is gone after this season, probably to the Lakers.

I know a number of posters here don't like Stephen A., but he's pretty well-connected in NBA circles (and I think he's been spot-on in his Nets drama analysis for the past couple of years).

This is good news IMHO. I can't wait for Kyrie to get lost and infect some other franchise. This will be the ultimate addition by subtraction move for the Nets.

The Lakers don't have the cap space to sign him next year. I don't see him going to LA for less to play one or two years with LeBron.

I think Kyrie's fate is entwined with KD's. If we disappoint this year, KD gets traded, and we'll help facilitate a sign and trade to get Kyrie somewhere. If we don't disappoint, Kyrie probably gets a 2+1 max deal.

Yeah I all but think that if we have a good season Kyrie probably gets extended before the playoffs.

After last night I am a bit more optimistic. His role on offense is so simple he should sleep walk to an All star/All NBA year.

If Kyrie plays well and without drama or serious injury) this year (which is about 25% likely IMHO), I can see the Nets giving him an extension, but not a 3-year commitment -- i.e. if it's a 2+1, the option would be the Nets' option, not Kyrie's option. I do not think the Nets will commit to Kyrie for 3 years under any circumstances. They've learned the hard way what kind of person Kyrie is.

KD might get traded if the Nets disappoint again, but I think, like this past summer, the Nets aren't going to sell him at a discounted value just because KD wants to leave. I think Marks and Tsai have had their fill of star-driven BS and have zero interest in accommodating KD or anyone else just because KD wants something.

Lakers don't have cap space, but ESPN is never going to let facts come in the way of a good story. And even if they had cap space, playing with a 40 year old LBJ surely isn't as attractive to Kyrie as everybody seems to think.

Kyrie is playing in his home area, and he is playing with KD, it doesn't get any better than that. It's all about him reaching understanding with the owner, and all it takes is one good season to change the situation completely. I don't think either side has closed the door on a extended deal, but the timing for that this year couldn't have been any worse.

I think the Nets will make him an offer in season. They just want to see if he's buying in.

Can't y'all just talk to the Special Agent In Charge (L. James) and have him reassigned?

BROOKLYN, NY—Telling reporters that he had uncovered the truth and needed to bring it to the public’s attention, Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving alleged Tuesday that Kyrie Irving was just a CIA creation invented to spread misinformation to the American people. “The man known to most as the basketball star Kyrie Irving is nothing more than an asset installed into the American consciousness during the 2011 NBA Draft to sow conspiracy and confusion,” said Irving, showing reporters a large bulletin board on which he had connected threads between a number of government agents and organizations that had plotted together to spread misinformation, with all the threads leading to a photograph of himself. “What I now understand to be a top-secret operation called KI-11 undoubtedly worked to develop a basketball asset with top ball-handling skills. The CIA could then deploy this asset in key media markets throughout the country, including New York, Cleveland, and Boston, to give public statements that undermine our commonly shared understanding of the world we live in. It is appalling to witness the lengths that shadowy institutions like the CIA are willing to go to in order to spread baseless conspiracy theories about things like the Covid vaccine and the shape of the earth. It is with sadness but also with firm purpose that I must reveal that this so-called basketball player Kyrie Irving is a mere instrument of the deep state.” Irving added that he had not ruled out the possibility that Kyrie Irving was a satanic creation brought to Earth to do the work of the devil.

Kyrie is around 50/40/90 for his career.

If he does that again this season, someone will offer him a contract, though it may not necessarily mean the Nets win a title.

I don't see him fetching as much as Donovan Mitchell in an in-season trade or a sign and trade in free agency though. But the Nets can likely get something for him if they decide they want to move on from him.

No team that is trying to win is going to give the Nets anything for Kyrie, other than possibly the Lakers.

However, the Nets might get lucky if a team that decides at some point during the season to tank for Wemby wants to unload a good player to worsen its team/improve its tank in exchange for Kyrie. NB that this hypothetical team would essentially be deciding that adding Kyrie would make the team worse -- and I think it's very possible that a team could decide this.

I'm on trade watch for Kyrie. I did not like how he played last night. Ben Simmons overshadowed how bad KAI was. Felt really selfish/not a winning player.

When Kyrie is missing, he nukes the offense. He over dribbles and hijakes the offense. He also does freelance on defense and misses rotations constantly.

Coming into to the season he was talking about MVP and I did not like that at all. KD is the MVP, KAI needs to play his role as secondary scorer and play maker. He should be aiming for 25pt, 5+ assists, instead of 30pts, 3+ assists.

Return to Brooklyn Nets
