This is a reoccurring thing. We was smoking Boston in the 1st quarter then collapsed too. Whatever it is we need to fix this. We need to Play 3 full quarters of great ball so we can give KD some rest finally. Hopefully when Ben and Yuta come back and TJ Warren gets his footing back this won't be a problem but we should of smoked this team.

I mean was offense really the issue?

The defense collapsed. Our defense is never consistent.

It came on towards the end of the 4th. But before that is was beyond terrible.

Our defense is going to be our downfall if we can’t stay consistent. I guess the team knows it has to play great D against teams like the Celtics and Bucks but seem to get lackadaisical against the lesser teams. Make no mistake, the Nets CAN beat anyone, including the Cvs and Bucks, but it’s all about the defensive effort. The offense is ridiculously good; I’m happy we at least got to the four seed…… For now. Hopefully we get the 3 seed minimum. I would rather play the Bucks second round than Boston. Boston is just clicking on all cylinders. KD/Nets have a tall order.

Youre right.

On the bright side Simmons is our best defender and Yuta is pretty good. So they will be a lot of help.

My hope is that eventually we can start Yuta at the 4 and put Royce on the bench.

I, for the most part, like the way JV is using our guards in offensive and defensive situations. With the exception of Simmons and KAI, I believe all our veteran guards are, at their best, mediocre defenders. In Kyrie's case, I can accept lapses, or size problems. He will almost always give you a plus result versus his opposition (because he is an offensive force). And I think he has good hands on defense. Cam can be that (at least somewhat offensively), but it will probably be on another team, or with a D'Antoni like coach. His minutes are too sporadic while we are forever attempting to rejuvenate our shooters.

So there does appear to be a place for Sumner on this team. I just want to see more, particularly offensively, before determining his ultimate value. When the league "book" is out on him, it will matter how much he is feared on the perimeter versus just his penetration skills.

I base my concerns on the mistake we made, depending on "promise" over demonstrated performance, prior to last year's playoffs. We called Edwards a three and D guy while he was averaging one (or less) three with decent D. We cut Johnson and did not play LMA, Griffin, or Drummond. This left KD as pretty much our only big, except for a then lesser Nic, against a huge Celtics team. Kessler was unplayable. Durant played nearly 47 minutes in our last two games and all it got him was total blame for the results.

Cam should be behind Patty too. He really needs G-League time.

Right.

Cam doesn't defend and can't shoot. Like literally, he cannot shoot. I don't know why he has the green light to take half the shots that he does when he's posting a horrific 48% TS/ 35% Raw FG. He hasn't improved at all, in fact he has gotten worse.

Patty's defense is trash too but at least he has an excuse because he's small but he still is a threat on offense to knock down threes.

Cam should be traded. I'm not convinced at all he's a winning player. Like even if the Nets go rebuild mode, do we even want a team built around him? I don't think prime Cam Thomas be the 3rd best player on a contender his ego rn doesn't seem like he'll be happy with that.

With how good this next draft is projected to be and the amount of good guards in the league right now, I doubt he even fetches a FRP at this point but maybe the Nets can dupe a team into trading for him or use him as a sweetener in a deal.

Feel like the Nets are trying to showcase him by giving him mins over Patty but he's been really bad.

Cam can be that bench microwave scorer who can play make and score. Clarkson or Sweet Lue type guy. He ain't ready right now though, he needs PT for that to happen. It's obvious our rooks took step back after we fired our development coaches.

We will be hitting reset in a year. I won't mind getting rid of our assets like Cam, Joe or Seth right now. They expendable imo and will be lost for nothing like Bruce Brown or Dinwiddie.

They also unplayable vs certain match ups. Can they prove us wrong, yes they can, but very doubtful. Yuta, Sumner and TJ will giving us much more and battle tested on other teams. We fortunate to have them.
