Unless the return for Simmons is something that puts the Nets into unstoppable territory, I don't trade him. We will need his defense and rebounding for the postseason.

Kyrie is elite. And on defense he was great. Idk why people always pretend hes a bad defender. He was shutting down Steph so much that Steph was begging to screen Kyrie off him and get on to Harris just to score in the 4th.
Claxton just keeps getting better honestly. I think he has a ton of room to grow offensively.
If he could just become a 70% FT shooter he would be perfect.
Harris is also looking good again.
O'Neal has been crucial all season.
Now for the bad:
I really think Simmons is a gigantic issue. We made our run in the 4th mostly without him. I've seen our defense look fine without him.
And his offense is just horrific. Even when he drives to the rim he can't ever find a way to score.
And hes a black hole on offense. Teams are now exposing him with KD out. They don't even seriously guard him anymore because they know he will just pass up easy buckets.
Its becoming clear we can't use him in a playoff series. I think the time to trade him is now. I will take whatever sacrifice defensively if we can get more offense.
Claxton is also going to be a huge problem in the playoffs if teams hack him. He is going to have to start making more of them before teams start exploiting it more and more.
Simmons is going to be hard to trade, but I think the best option would be to put him on the bench once KD comes back, and let him run that second unit. Otherwise, you have to sacrifice Joe or Royce.
Is that really the long term solution?
Bench player for a max guy?
Unless he can get his offense back he really can't be playing major minutes in a playoff series. Our offense has been horrific without KD in large part due to him.
You need 2 way players in the modern NBA.
I think teams would take a gamble on him. We don't need major assets. Just a good role player that we can actually use in the playoffs.
Simmons needs his own team where he can work his way back to the player he once was.
Bench player or not, his minutes will be about 25 per game. In regards to trading him, I don't think any team would take that gamble. He is not worth it even if he was paid much less. Nets were forced into that deal by Harden. Basketball wise, this is ideal situation for Simmons where he has two elite scorers and other shooters around him, but he plays so weak offensively. Bruce Brown averaged 15 ppg since the Harden trade last season and he did it mostly in the paint at 6'4''. Simmons should be able to give you atleast 10 ppg.

I honestly think he will actively hurt us.
Teams will start to exploit him on offense more and more and intentionally foul him.
Unless he can get it together he can't really help in a playoff series.

Highly disagree with this. His defense alone makes him someone that can play in playoffs.
How will team exploit him on offense more? They already sag off him aggressively. Not much more they can do that hasn't already been done this season.
The intentional fouling thing is a bit overblown. He has shown that he can hit FTs when intentionally fouled this season (@ Portland for ex) and in the past. Only takes him hitting a pair for teams to stop. I'm way more worried about Clax.
Intentional fouls also allow the Nets to play half court defense, which they are lot better at(like most teams) than transition D.

Those intentional fouls also add up. I could care less about teams playing hack a ben/clax. Go for it. Golden State did and we punished them for it.
Ben's on floor impact can't be ignored, especially when we have KD in the line up.
In other news, Richaun Holmes may be a buyout candidate. We need to pounce on that.

Good point. Getting into the bonus early with KD & KAI who are 90+% FT is a major plus. TJ Warren is also really good FT shooter. Just need a big that can shoot man.

That would be such a great pick up but I fail to see why Sac would want to get rid of him for nothing.
