I still say Rick Addleman would have been a great coach for our team, especialy before Thorn extended Opies contract.
I know his record with the Rockets is subpar, but.......
This is an offensive team with good defensive abilities, I don't care what anyone says or the fact we are among the worst in the league in points per game.
That rests on two facts.
A. Coaching, you know, beating that dead horse. Bad play calling and substitution patterns.
B. When our team is either up or down double digits we go to perimeter jumpshot mode early in the shot clock, usually resulting in one and dones when we should be penatrating with slahers like RJ, take it to the hole with guys like VC that are proven finishers, and finishers like Boone and SWAT off cuts and J Kidd drive and kicks.
Addleman is mostly an offensive coach, who also respects and demands solid defense. I still think he would have been a great fit.
I stand by my word, the best analagy I can come up with. Opie is the Herm Edwards of the NBA.
He is a good practice coach, motivational speaker, but he does not exacute come game time, makes a lot of questionable calls and plays way to conservative given our lineup, and is almost afraid to get in one of his players faces, even when they are playing bad.
He would rather pat them on the back, chalk it up too bad officiating, which sometimes it is, and except a loss, as the old"well they were the better team tonight and outhustled and outplayed us."
Babbage.
The problem is we are stuck with him for years.
I still sometimes think there is this big conspiracy to let the Nets be subpar until we have a lot of cap space and move to Brooklyn, go after a coach like Phil Jackson, sign Lebron James and another big time PF or C, resign Kidd for a lesser contract, fill in the blanks and try to take it all within the first 1 to 2 years we are in NYC.
Well, there is always the hope of that pipe dream trade that gets us over the top before we leave the swamp and win it all, or atleast make it to the big dance and lose competively in 7 games without homecourt.
Just some thoughts to ponder.
