RJ being the only constant fastbreak player on this team would mean one of Kidd's greatest strengths is removed however they now have a legitimate post presence that requires double teams.

Problem is Shaq can no longer fight through double teams so he has to pass the ball out. Now this is a very good thing if you have an offense with good spacing / ball movement / perimeter shooting. Unfortunately the Nets don't do any of those three things particularly well so they wouldn't take advantage of Shaq's low post game unless they make another move to get a dead-eye shooter unless by some miracle Boki / Antoine / Kidd suddenly get their shooting touches back on a consistent basis which I doubt.

I still think Shaq has a productive 'game' but these days he needs the right type of pieces to fit w/ his game and the Nets just don't have it.

If this rumour is indeed true though maybe Mgmt is going to make up their minds (finally) about this team after the Westcoast Road trip & Krstic's return....

Just FYI guys, we can't trade that 1st round pick until after the draft because we traded it (with lottery protection) to the Timberwolves. Because of th clause that says you can't trade two future consecutive 1st rounders, we can't trade it unntil after the draft, when it would be a past 1st rounder. Meaning that if any deal were to take place this season, that pick couldn't legally be a part of it under the Collectve Bargaining Agreement.

I don't think Shaq and Kidd's game really meshes well together. That being said, it might be worth the risk at this point. This team is a mess, and is so up and down, without an identity offensively.

Shaq gives us that identity.

Kidd's become a decent three-point shooter, and with the attention that Vince and Shaq will get, he should get plenty of open looks. This should also jumpstart Antoine (providing he's healthy) and Boki's game again, as they too will benefit from the wide-open looks they'll get.

Defensively, Shaq is no longer much of a threat because he's lost his mobility especially in space. Fortunately for us, we have an athletic and rangy PF who can cover Shaq's backside in Sean. If Nenad also ever comes back, he too will benefit from those open high-post looks he'll get.

Before we make this deal though, I'd like to see us explore one other trade of a guy that is rumored to be possibly be available: Amare.

Give them RJ, Sean (yes, Sean!), and Marcus (who could flourish in that open court game the Suns play) for Amare and Marcus Banks.

we don't have a 1st round pick in 2009 because we traded it to the T-Wolves? For who and when did we do this?

EDIT : nevermind i thought he was talking about the Nets

I would do this trade in a heart beat are you kidding me, RJ plus what ever for Shaq is the best move the nets can maybe make we would be a better all around team and shaq makes things much easier and playing with kidd he'll be back on the map.

No way Miami gives up this year's 1st round pick in ANY trade. Mayo/Beasley/Rose...think about it. And Shaq is still serviceable, and still commands a double-team. His contract is up in two years, BTW.

Return to Brooklyn Nets
