There should be no blame on VC. I don't doubt that he tried and he still is trying. If he can't cut it with what we have then it is management's fault for thinking he could or for not putting enough around him. It's not VC who's given up. It's the entire team.
RJ (maybe Kidd too) is the only person who is blameless in my eyes.

He's gotten way too passive, watch any videos of him during his first few years. This new Vince is an imposter.
I would put a good majority of the blame on the new offense this year. From the beginning of the year, we've seen the ball swung till it finds an open player. Normally, this would be ok IF its a good jump shooting team or if the offense has cuts to the hoop. Our team has neither. Other than the pick n roll w/ Boone, we have no movement toward the hoop. Its always a jump shot and we just don't have consistent shooters. Vince definitely bears blame in this too. At times when we need him to put his stamp on the game, he just turns passive and plays within the offense. Irony of ironies...who would have thought all the grumbling about ISOs from last year would come back to bite us in the ass this year?

We fired a coach, hired and traded players just to please him and now him speaking out looses the value we might have gotten if he would have not said anything at all.
Can you blame him? Every time he has asked for a trade, Thorn wouldn't accommodate him. This puts more pressure on Thorn and gives Kidd a better shot at getting his wish.

If Kidd wants to be traded he doesn't want to be traded for a lot. No reason for him to want to get the Nets more from the team he's going to.

Trade him. Its as easy as that. We need a scoring/shooter PG anyway. As for VC, please stop bashing him, it is not his fault. He just plays within the offense, same when you guys play with your team (if you have one) you have to execute the designed play and i think thats takes away his greatness. It's Frank's s2pid system and he should be the one to get blamed for this.

As much as I love Kidd, he quit on us this season when things got rough.

You guys need a sticky on this topic -- it can include any of the guys you might consider trading.
Good luck with how whatever move you make (or maybe don't make) goes by the way. Hope it works out in a way that you will be satisfied. It's tough and can be fractious. Orlando fans know after what happened with T-Mac. So at least speaking for myself, I wish you as little pain as possible.

hes probably gonna go out west, + if he leaves they are gonna rebuild so they aren't a threat to whatever team hes going to.lurkingobeiscity wrote:If Kidd wants to be traded he doesn't want to be traded for a lot. No reason for him to want to get the Nets more from the team he's going to.

And how soon some forget, Kidd played incredibly hard last playoffs -- close to averaging a triple double. It was despite Kidd's efforts we lost to the Cavs.
So I disagree. I think he did make a push for the all star game. Now he's made it, his game has let down a bit for the past few. If he's not traded, he'll make a 2nd half playoff push, like he's done the past few years. We are only 1/2 game back. Which will only hurt our draft lottery positioning ~~
This team has been poor for longer than just this season. When the team was still .500, before this losing streak, they said how the Nets where a .500 team over last 82 games -- meaning the team was just as bad the second half of last season.
Kidd has value right now. Sell high, buy low. Move on and rebuild a year earlier. Kidd is as healthy and plays as hard as ever, with one and half years more year on his contract and proven top level player. We can wait and risk an injury or for Kidd to actually shut it down, or just force him to play out his contract in a half empty arena on a bad team. I don't want that.
Sure, if the trades aren't there now, wait for after the season. But I have a feeling with the right sales pitch, a western team in the hunt will offer as good as any we'll get.

I think that one item is what is causing the Nets to implode. When the Nets resigned VC, they HAD TO find a way to get a big man out of the deal, presumably by trading one of those star wings.
That they failed to do so led to some oncourt weaknesses that led to player doubts and ultimately creates an "Run for the lifeboats. Every man for himself. Take care of yourself first" attitude among the players.
It coulda and shoulda been so much more.

I don't think so, not initially at least. When things first started to go bad Kidd went out and was doing everything in his power to win getting triple double after triple double, recently I haven't liked his body language but frustration can get to anyone in the end.

I agree 110%. He showed his true colors he's a selfish punk. This is no different than Chris Morris 15 years ago or marbury 10 years ago. We pay him 20 mil a year and what does he do? He airs our dirty laundry and disrespects our club. It wasn't nessary to go public with this. It makes us look like the old incompatant "Seacaucus seven" Nets.
When he got here he said "I'm going to turn this team around 360 degree's".......Looks like he's good at keeping his word.

Great pic.

Unfortunately the trade isn't. Nets will want salary relief, picks and youth. IMO salary relief will be a very big deal -- the team ain't packing the house, and there's noise of Ratner's (the owner) having financial problems with his Brooklyn project.
ETA: Just a note to me. With Kidd/RJ/VC salary Nets are about middle of the NBA pack, are #12 in payroll for this season at $68.8 mil. If the team is going to be non-competitive, host mostly empty house, with relocation to Brooklyn still years off, there's little point in keeping a pricey HOF/all-star. May as well cut payroll and rebuild now if the right deal comes along. That's the logical business decision.

- Nets' president Rod Thorn, who has been working the phones along with special assistant Kiki Vandeweghe looking for deals involving just about all of his players, said this request doesn't mean definitively that Jason Kidd will be traded.
"It doesn't change how I approach things," Thorn said. "You look at what you have, and what you try to do is assess your assets and do what makes sense."
One possible scenario, league sources said, involves Kidd and features the Nets, Mavericks and at least one other Western Conference team -- perhaps Portland or Denver -- that could provide New Jersey with young players.
Kidd would go to Dallas and the Nets would get back Devean George, DeSagana Diop, Jerry Stackhouse and picks, plus more players from the other team, the sources said. -- The Record
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- When asked whether Kidd's public acknowledgment has hurt the Nets' bargaining position, Thorn replied, "Probably. Probably negatively. But we'll see. We'll see what transpires."
It is also worth noting that Kidd's remarks could have an adverse effect on his teammates, notably Vince Carter, whose inconsistency is one reason for Kidd's desire to divorce a team he has led so brilliantly since arriving in June of 2001.
Thorn has never really emerged from the starting gate in any two-team trade scenarios. An Eastern Conference exec reiterated yesterday that it isn't likely to improve.
"Rod is not going to make a stupid deal, and that's all he's getting -- we're talking 10-cents-on-a-dollar kind of stupid," said the executive, who requested anonymity so as not to interfere with Nets business. "The only teams interested are teams that could win it all. And those are teams that don't want to give up pieces." -- Newark Star-Ledger
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- The conversation that took place a couple of weeks ago between Thorn and rep Jeff Schwartz, was exactly the same as the one that occurred last February as that trade deadline rapidly approached and the Lakers declined to include Andrew Bynum in a package for Kidd. "Do something to make yourselves a contender or please deal Jason to a contender," Schwartz told Thorn in essence. -- New York Post
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- "If ... they don't move him, Jason will make life miserable for them. I think they'll trade him. They'll wait until the last possible moment," said one exec with an opposing team.
"They're in a no-win situation," said another GM. "No one out there is going to give them a piece to grow with. Maybe expiring contracts and draft picks, but the teams that will bid - say Dallas, Cleveland -- don't necessarily have that." -- New York Post
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- The Cavs, in need of a point guard, are expected to be putting in a bid. According to sources, the Cavs' front office has been in contact recently with the Nets to gauge their demands. As with the pursuit of Mike Bibby and Kevin Garnett, the team is not in a favorable position because it has a limited number of tradable assets. -- The Akron Beacon-Journal
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- New Jersey's Jason Kidd is rumored to be on the trading block, but it is believed the Mavericks are not interested because of the heavy price. -- The Dallas Morning News
