defense is nothing without effort. you dont even have to pay attention to detail on defense to compete, just have to try hard, then you add that detail and execution and you are a great defensive team again.

Effort goes a long way to improving defense. But a lot of effort and no concept just leads to giving a lot of fouls as is the case with sean williams.

It just seems also that our players dont defensively multitask. They dont give help while keeping aware that their man is still on the floor. Then it's just shots for everyone for everyone. Thats why bad players get career highs against us.

The Nets defensive mentality since Frank got here has been to minimize points in the paint. To this end, we've always double-teamed in the post while living with the other team hoisting 3 pointers. This has worked for us in the past but this year and last year in particular we've been killed by the 3 pointer. We have some athletic bigs now and its about time Frank lets them play D without help. We used to be a good to great help-defense team but in playing our rookies (Boone and Williams) we've lost that. Our rookies have poor positioning which is key to good help-defense. I'm not saying we shouldn't play the rookies cause God knows we need them but its just one of the drawbacks. Frank needs to adjust to this. Very few teams have true post players anyway...more and more teams lean towards the 3 ball now.
