well...depending on what Miami was looking for. RJ + Magliore and a filler such as Wright at first, if they didn't accept, I would've considered Marcus. That gives them either 2 expirings or 1 expiring and a future PG possibly. Plus they would've gotten RJ. After seeing them take Marion and Banks, I think they would've bitten on RJ + Magloire + Wright... personally I feel we could've offered them a better deal with that or somewhat similar, than PHX did.

So we give our trading chips for Shaq and we try to bargain with our pathetic bench for shooters. Not gonna work. Your attempted plan destorys our chances now and makes rebuilding longer.

Here are my five reasons we, The Nets, shouldn't have traded for Shaq...

1.) He's a 36 year old rapidly declining big whose body has and will continue to take punishment.
2.) Hip Bursitis...For an old big that loves to back down...not the best injury to work with.
3.) Contract
4.) No other pieces for him to work with or for us to trade away for
5.) He could hardly play above 35 minutes. It's either an aggravting injury or in foul trouble.

It's not a better deal for them. Marion is an expiring after next year, while RJ has 3-4 years left on his deal. That was the real kicker in moving Shaq - even if Marion didn't work out, they could have cleared him from their cap after next season, giving them flexibility to build around Wade.

Also, Marion is a much, much better player than Jefferson. Also complements Wade better.

Rich, how would getting Shaq destroy our chances NOW? It'd immediately put us into contention. Don't understand your logic there...the rebuild may take longer, like you suggested, but aren't we in this to win NOW with Kidd? Maybe not anymore, but that's where we were the past 2 years.

netsforever, I've already commented on Marion. Yes, he's a good player, but I feel his accomplishments are mainly because of the system he was in. I expect his numbers to decline. We'll see...

It's a Shaq that can't stay in the game anymore whether it's foul trouble or conditioning. What's so hard to understand? i have no problem letting Kidd expire in a year and a half while we keep our pieces. I haven't even mentioned we don't have the pieces like PHX does nor your weird attempts to trade for players in which we would have an even longer shot at after a trade for Shaq.

I just think Shaq was struggling because of the relationship he had with many in Miami. He wanted out, whether he publically said so or not. The product that was on the court, outside of him and Wade, was mediocre at best. No one on that team threatens anyone and most aren't good at defense which led to open lanes to the basket. Their young players don't look very promising and many vets on that team were/are banged up; Wade, Haslem, Mourning, Shaq... When all is said and done, he's still one of the most dominant players in the league, and arguably the most dominant center in NBA history.

He won a championship in Miami. Why would he be struggling with the relationships there? And I couldn't care less about what happened off the court in Miami. I'm talking about Shaq's game currently. I couldn't agree with you more that he was one of the most dominant players in NBA history, but he's been playing like a headless chicken this year. With what you're asking to trade for him and for the pieces around him, it's just unrealistic and once again, I just don't think it helps us.
