Elton Brand

Post#1 » by Da_Kidd » Mon Jun 30, 2008 5:20 pm

Regardless if he opts out or not, you think the Nets could be in line for going hard in trying to acquire this guy? I mean, they were willing to take a chance on SAR at one point even if he was coming off a major knee surgery. I was just wondering if most people here would be opposed in getting a guy who can consistently average a double-double and would be a definite All-Star in the East? Or getting Elton Brand would not be a part of the movement that the Nets are undertaking?

I don't care about Brands injury history. If we can land him, I'd be all for it.

the nets won't get Elton Brand, the nets are going to save their money for 2010, i wish they would though because lebron is not leaving cleveland

I think the Nets are planning for Lebron and the rest of the free agents in 2010, however, if they got a deal they couldn't pass up (see: back when we talked about getting Melo...or the deal which we landed Vince) then I think we'd honestly change directions. As of right now, nothing is on the horizon so obviously we're gearing for Lebron, but Thorn and Kiki aren't dumb guys so they'll figure something out if the right deal came along. Luckily they're not ones to make rash decisions.

Brand would certainly turns things around for New Jersey with Devin and Vince Carter. I don't see how a trade can happen unless your willing to unload all your youth for him and even still the contracts would need to come close to matching. However, it's probably just better off to wait things out for another year or two.

Yeah, even as much as I love Elton, we're gonna give the youth movement a shot. We'll pull a trade or two this offseason and free up some roster space for a solid vet or two to help the young guys and go from there. Honestly, I don't have low expectations, just realistic expectations. If we teeter around how we did last season or due better, I'm gonna be happy for next season. I just want to see 1-3 young guys next year show they can step up.

I'd actually do pretty much anything I can to get Brand really a core of him-Vince-Harris could be DEADLY.
We have some assets, surely enough to interest the Clippers unfortunately Kiki and Thorn are dead set on this youth movement so no Brand for us :(

Elton Brand's contract epxires next season so that wouldn't be a problem.

I would kill to deal for him but we don't have the contracts to match and deal. I don't think they would take back hassell's deal.

Well, Brand just opted out of his deal and it seems like a couple of teams (Memphis, Heat and Philly) are out to get him. He says he wants to stay in LA but seems to be persuaded to opt out by the fact that he wants to win a championship now.

I'm pretty sure a deal consisting of Stromile, KVH, Marcus Williams and a future first would even out salaries in a sign and trade. If I'm management, would I roll the dice on Brand if negotiations don't work out in LA?

I'd roll the dice in a heartbeat for Brand. All we would need is 1 or 2 of our young guys to blossom and we'd be pretty solid. Don't expect the front office to overpay for him though.

Personally...I'd love to see him go back to the Bulls. Gooden/Nocioni/pick for Brand. Don't rip that cause I don't even know if it works in the trade checker.

He just opted out!!
His agent says bc Maggette opted out Brand wants to see if the Clips will sign a quality free agent.
If I'm Thorn forget about Lebron we have the money Brand would be MVP worthy on the NETS.

LOL Please stop cutting the excitement of us landing LBJ on 2010 because if there's any team close in getting LBJ, it would be us. LBJ's favorite place is NY, his favorite borough is brooklyn and most of his friends are from brooklyn also. Nike has offered LBJ, per ESPN commentators during NBA draft night, an extra 100 million dollars if he will play for NY, LA or Chicago so dont take away the fact that we are going to be huge players in that most awating LBJ sweepstakes. Plus, we are surely moving to Brooklyn this time and he is Jay-Z's bestfriend.

BTW, if there is a way for us to become one of those championship caliber team every year, getting LBJ is the best way. Other dominant players are either signed for life or not intrigued in playing here.

So if you had the choice on signing Elton Brand now you'd wait till 2010 and pray Lebron chooses to come here?
I'd take the sure shot.
