Well, I saw him in the first preseason game, and I take that with a grain of salt, but he just looked lost.

Not even lost in the system, just lost being on a basketball court.

Slow, both physically and mentally.

I just think Rod really wanted Yi, and to clear cap room for 2010, and Simmons was just contract filler.

I don't expect much of anything from him, and I hope he gets less than 20 minutes a game and doesn't complain, so it opens up extra minutes for CDR, Hayes, Anderson and Najera at the 2 and 3 respectively.

this could be the reality here...still giving this situation some time...

Not a Nets fan, but I expect Simmons to get some of the most incosistent minutes in the NBA. I honestly won't be suprised to see him get 20 starts and 20 CD-DNPs.

Agreed. Anything out of Simmons was/is probably viewed as a bonus. He also represented a bit of insurance since at the time, there was no guarantee that CDR would fall or that Najera would come over.

Simmons looked slow and a step behind most of last year. He started to move quicker at the end of the season, which really helped his game.

He will probably contribute more than Yi in 2008-09, in spite of Yi's tremendous potential. Simmons is a better passer, better ball handler and better defender. He is better from 3-point range. Yi is a better rebounder, shot blocker and runner on the break. But Yi was completely lost on defense all of last year. Yi remains a bit of a project before he becomes a legit NBA player.

I'm sorry, but I highly disagree with this.

I at least wouldn't be surprised if old skool was right.

Durability and/or foul trouble could really hogtie Yi this year. Simmons could be a 22mpg guy for us, especially with Frank's predisposition toward rookies (Lopez gets a free pass because we need low-post scoring like no other, and Stanford reminds Frank of his bosom buddy Jason Collins). I hope this is not the case, or least if he does sit on CDR, I hope he gets fired for it. But Simmons could be a 9/4/2/1/0 guy for us under these circumstances, and if Yi isn't careful, his production could slide from his rookie year, due to the level of competition for PT he has behind him.

Can happen, but won't.
I am not talking about Simmons, I agree with you on his playing time and #'s.
I am talking about Yi's #'s.

I do think though, that Yi will play about 24 MPG and average about 11PPG, 5RPG, 1BPG, 2 APG.

He was injured the whole preseason.

I don't know if he, or anyone off the bench with the exception of Dooling and Lopez(if he isn't starting) will get consistant minutes, especially the 1st half of the season.

Our bench is hinestly very deep, and Frank is going to play the matchups.

By the Way, I have to give myself credit on this one. I talked up Hayes all offseason, before we signed him. He was basically my #1 target for FA. This guy has had a lot of injuries and not a lot of opportunities. He is still young, but has played a few seasons. He can easily be a 25 mpg, heavy contributing 6xth man for years to come.

Hayes rocks. I was really pissed when the Piston's signed him last year because I thought he was the back up 2/3 we haven't had coming off the bench in years. When we signed him, it was totally out of the blue to me and I was so pumped for it. The kid is 26 and when he's on the court, he's pretty damn good. He just needs to prove he can stay healthy. He did it last year, he can do it again this year.
