What really bothers me is people...a lotta people on realgm tend to believe what they wanna believe. Some of those members keep mentioning those "evidences" like they really are solid and credible...I mean come on, you go ask my grandma how old she thinks Greg Oden really is she would come up with 39 instead of 19.

LOL. I really don't think the age issue is really a major factor, I think it has to deal more with the so called hype certain Chinese players are getting. It probably goes back to Yao getting all the All-Star votes and now Yi receiving somewhat similar treatment, so I'm sure whatever information they could find to criticize Yi with they would use.

I mean really tho, if Yi was a beast right now in the NBA...like putting up 28/12/2, even at 21.24..26...there's not many teams or fans who wouldn't take a player like that, especially if he was on a rookie contract.

Either way, it doesn't bother me if people on RealGM want to focus on Yi's age. I watch Yi because I do see there's talent and I hope he does develop to add to the NBA, just like I try to watch other players and teams in the NBA such as Blazers, Hawks, Cavs, Rockets, and sometimes Grizzlies. Being a NBA fan and having NBA League Pass this season has been awesome so far for me.

those are pretty sweet esp the dunk from a missed 3-pt. I mean the potential is written all over it. coached properly he will be a beast. Sam Mitchell specialized with Andrea (freakingly similar player) maybe you guys should bring him in.

China is gonna take over the NBA in 5-10 years. With football being #1 in the US and all the exposure of the NBA in China, there's gonna be ALOT more diversity.

Spain too. Although soccer is still #1 there and always will be.

Earlier this week when Mitchell was fired, it was reported that Mitchell didn’t think Andrea Bargnani had earned his playing time. But he was pressured into playing Bargnani by GM Bryan Colangelo. So it would hard to believe Mitchell had high regards for Bargnani.

However, I do agree that good coaching can make a great difference in Yi’s development. Kiki is one of the best shooter and should be a good shooting coach. Roy Rogers has little credentials to be a big-time big man coach. The Nets needs to get a former NBA PF or center to work with the young bigs (like Cartwright).

Hakeem offered to work with Yao but Yao declined likely because he isn't quick enough to play Hakeem's style.

Yi would def benefit from Hakeem's footwork and work ethic. Yi doesn't have the strength or the coordination of Hakeem but the kid has the quickness, athleticism and shooting touch. Under Hakeem's tutelage he'd might become darn good.

Yao Ming received personal instructions from Hakeem AND Ewing. Hakeem did it because he is a Rockets alumnus. Ewing as part of his duties as the assistant coach at the time. Yao considered himself really lucky.

No such luck for Yi. I don't agree with the part of Yi doesn't have the strength or coordination of Hakeem. First of all, strength helps but does not prevent anyone to develop the moves and it's also something that can be added afterwards. The coordination part is only your own opinion. Yi's skill set is as good as any big man every played the game. What he needs is good teaching, good coaching and experience.

I think I know what he's referring to, but it wasn't Yao who declined to work with Hakeem...I mean why in the world would he decline to work with Hakeem? lol. Here's proof that Yao did indeed train with Hakeem:

I think what happened was that it was during the time when Jeff Van Gundy was coaching the Rockets, JVG had his own coaches that he wanted Yao Ming to use. Here's an article that talks about that:

http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/sports/200 ... 896442.htm
Dawson, retired from his position as general manager of the Rockets, is back doing what he did for most of his adult life. He's coaching again and loving every minute of it. He has worked with a variety of NBA big men over the years, most notably Hakeem Olajuwon. Until this month, he'd never had a session with Yao.

Jeff Van Gundy had his own coach to work with centers (Tom Thibodeau), and Dawson was busy with front office matters. When Rick Adelman was hired as coach, Dawson approached him with a four-page plan that would focus on cutting down Yao's turnovers, fine-tuning his low-post game and making him more aggressive.

"He has been a finesse player his whole career," Dawson said, "and people have beaten the hell out of him. I want him to use his strength and be a power player."

Exactly. Andrew Bynum has both Phil Jackson and Kareem. If Yi, heck if any player, can get something similiar of valuable coaching and teaching then it would be crucial to their development. This is something I hope Yi receives, especially this summer since there are no big tournaments. I think there was also something mentioned about the Nets wanting Yi to train over the summer as well.

Thibo is the best big man coach in the league, plain and simple.

It's gonna be hard to find a mentor for Yi. He's style is not like Yao's, Hakeem's or Ewing's. The one that can come close is Dirk but he's still playing the game. Yi is a different player, he is a new breed of talent that we have never seen before, a 7 footer with quickness, athleticism and shooting did not exist in Hakeem's time or Ewing's. Im not saying there's no way to find one but it's just gonna be hard. It's hard but it's possible.

His Offensive game is more like a small forward than a power forward. A good small forward coach would do fine.

Well I think a major difference between Yi and those centers that you mentioned is that Yi doesn't play center. In terms of wishful thinking, the two players I would like to see Yi train with are Kevin Garnett and Rasheed Wallace. Heck, maybe even Chris Webber could help Yi take advantage of his quickness and athleticism.

Yi has a lot of skills that hopefully he can develop through proper training and good mentors.

All I know is that Yi keeps gaining confidence with ever game. It's obvious in the way he plays. He is the key to our success this season and in the future. If he stays in Jersey for the summer I can only imagine the strides he's going to make physically and mentally.
