I like the idea of getting Carter, but this definitely is not how to go about doing it.
Pass for Portland.

Agreed, I can't see Portland taking on 2 dead-wood contracts and giving up that much in youth + their backup C.
Also, Ben Gordon would have to approve any trade and would forfeit his Bird Rights if traded. I can't see him accepting this (or any) trade.

Hughes and Simmons make this deal very unappealing for Portland. I'm with Spykes where I like Carter, but not at the cost of adding 20 million on the books next season plus losing our only security Blanket when Oden gets in foul trouble.

The deal would have to be something like VC to Portland for Raef, Outlaw, and 1st. I think thats the best we can hope for.

How about we throw Brandon Roy a max contract with 20 mill up front next off-season since he'll be a free agent.Just imagine Devin and Roy as are backcourt with Lopez up front. That would be a bright future for the Nets.

Roy isn't going anywhere. I just hope if/when VC is traded it's to a contender. Despite what many of his critics say, VC deserves a a ring.

I'll say the same thing when the Kidd and K-Mart (And for those months on the KG trail, RJ) talks appeared. I couldn't care less about where VC is traded. It could be the Clippers, the Magic, or even the Knicks...as long as the Nets get away with another heist. I don't hate VC (and the Finals Big 3 for the matter), but as a fan...Nets team first before an individual.

I like Gordon more thatn others and would welcome him on this team.
That said, PDX takes on way too much unneeded salary and sends out Pryzbilla, who they need.

No one deserves anything.
You earn things.
I dont think getting a ring is high on his priority list.

Re: Trade him while he is hot (BlockBuster)
well you get down to the question is the team > player...
yes, w/out a doubt...if you are a true fan...
Before Vince Carter came to NJ, I was never a fan...throw on a Nets jersey on Jordan and I'll root for him (couldnt stand him as a player...)...you either lovem or hatem...samething w. Ewing, Barkley, Miller, ect...
Did/do they deserve a ring? Depends on the fan...
As far as Vince goes, career wise, he's a tier below those guys (no NBA Finals appearance)...but I think there is a lot to his game that goes unrecognized...he gets killed for some of his outside shot selection, but when he makes them, no one complains...
If we ever trade Carter, you want the most for your return...I'm sure G will still be a Vince fan no matter where he goes, but I'm sure he wants the Nets to get the best possible deal out there...

Yeah, I've more faith in G myself. Hell, I still follow the Finals Big 3 still (at least I follow K-Mart when he isn't injured).

Re: Trade him while he is hot (BlockBuster)
My comments were because I've followed VC since his college days. The guy is an easy target to the media and critics, because of his attitude and selfishness, plain and simple. This guy has been nothing but a role model, where ever he has gone, and I'm sure the majority of the Raptor fans (even the bitter ones) would agree.
With that being said, I personally would like to see him get a ring, I think he deserves one but that's just my personal opinion. As JJ said, a lot of things in VC's game are underrated and go unnoticed. It's a shame.
Obviously I want the best possible deal for the Nets and their future. I don't see anything any team has to offer that we'd consider outside of Portland, honestly. As far as young talent goes right now - Cleveland doesn't have much, Orlando doesn't have much, etc...
I'll definitely always support the Nets, even more so when Frank gets the axe. I will also keep a close eye on VC, however, and hope he ends his career with at least 1 ring. Team always comes before the individual, after all, there's no "I" in "team"
