I like the local patriotism but wasn't the Nets originally from NY. So your argument is BS.

For the second year, the team opted to stay on Long Island, where it changed its name to the New York Nets. The team was renamed to "Nets" to rhyme with the names of two other professional sports teams that played in the New York metropolitan area at the time: Major League Baseball's New York Mets and the American Football League's New York Jets. "Nets" was also a nickname that related to basketball in general, since it is part of the hoop.

So clearly this was meant to be.

Get over it.

I will be living in NJ and still for the move. New Arena. New Market.

Can you say Lebron Doesnt Opt Out? Doubt he does this but we can dream.

How is it bs? I'd love to hear that answer. I admit, its ironic that people (myself included) fight about the team moving out of the state, but by your line of thinking, if the Dodgers were to move from LA back to Brooklyn, Los Angeles people should not complain either, since the Dodgers were once playing in New York.

Get over it.

Give me ten minutes and I will do just that.

Okay, good for you. I'm not saying its a sin to be for the move, I was just stating my opinion. I don't care if people are for or against the move, but I will defend my stance if questioned.

Can you say Lebron Doesnt Opt Out? Doubt he does this but we can dream.

Lebron doesn't opt out. Yes, it seems that I can say it....just kidding, really, though, I have no idea what you're saying here.

Didn't the nets begin in New Jersey BEFORE they moved to New York???

http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com/nba/nj/njnets.html

According to that they started in Jersey.

Also, despite them starting in Jersey, I'd be fine if they moved to Brooklyn.

My first choice would be for them to play in Newark, but I sure as hell don't want them moving to Seattle.

Unfortunately, no, they started in New York, moved to New Jersey, then back to New York, then back to New Jersey.

But I do.

This argument makes sense, but at the same time, makes no sense when you think outside the area.
I'm not thinking about outside of this area, I am thinking about this area.

I understand rooting for the team that plays in your state, but think about states that don't even have a team. If they had an NBA, would they care where they moved? I'm gonna say no because they'll RARELY go see them anyway.
But I do go see them, and I am a fan for the sole reason that they are playing in my state, in my home.

Teams are corporations; corporations move national headquarters all the time. I just don't see why 5 miles is a make or break sometimes in this situation.
Um, okay? Its make or break because they are leaving the state...literally, if they were moving to south Jersey, I'd root for them. If they were moving to, lets say, Brick, and called themselves the Brick Township Nets, I'd root for them. But since they are leaving the state, I feel no loyalty to them anymore. Not only that, the Knicks play closer to where I live, so by your argument, I should be rooting for them because they are five minutes away. I have to drive fifteen minutes to see a Nets game, where I could walk a block to the path, get on the train, get off, and be at MSG in ten minutes.

Crap where my parnets live in Jersey, it's probably easier for me to head to Brooklyn.
Then have fun with that.

All I ask, when you bail on this team is that you don't start watching one of the "it" teams right now like Portland and Orlando.
I'd watch the Nets on tv, but if I felt the need to go see a NBA game in person, I'd be going to the Knicks, they're closer.

If I EVER had to leave the Nets fan base, I'll probably just get back into college basketball more and just watch the NBA to "watch" because basketball is like crack rock to me, but Thorn would have to do something COMPLETELY (Please Use More Appropriate Word) for me to do that. I don't think moving 5 miles is gonna do that. I rep Jersey like you wouldn't believe, but the fact they move a few minutes away isn't gonna make me all pissy. I'll pay the same amount by train that it costs to park my damn car at the IZOD, so the move just feels moot to me.

We are obviously fans for different reasons. I am a fan of them because they are in New Jersey, if they leave, my fanhood gets put on hold or gets transfered to another team in another sport that comes to New Jersey, like the Marlins were going to do a few years back. I'm not saying you are wrong, we just have a difference of opinion.

This has to be the most self centered response I've ever read on this board. I understand you're upset and you'll be totally angry if they moved 5 miles and that 5 miles will cause you to leave the fan base simply for the fact they're out of the state, but I just don't like this logic. Maybe it's because I don't live in NJ, I'll just bite my tongue from now on, but we should be thankful management only wants to move the team 5 miles...not 5000.

I blame the Knicks for all of this.If they didn't suck so bad we wouldn't be moving to NY.Before Kidd came here, did u ever here anyone saying the Nets are from NY they belong here.No because we sucked.Over the past decade the Nets have owned the Knicks and Ny loves a winner, thats why were headed there. This is OUR  team and if they leave we should keep the name so the New Jersey Nets will be back some day.I don't no why people say the best move for this team is to go to Brooklyn. The Prudential Center is the most logical choice.I don't want to be one of those states that don't have a team, thats so wack it's not even funny.I guess it's because i'm born and raised here and still live here.

The fact is that this team is losing money hand over fist. Now I know everyone is gonna argue (it's not my money) but the fact is that Ratner isn't spending money to put a winning team on the floor b/c he is losing so much money. Not just 2010 but for years to come players want to play in packed arena's not half full one's with little 8 year old kids screaming. Does everyone in NJ not watch baseball b/c we don't have a team that plays here, no people support the Yankees, Mets, and Phillies. Doesn't any true fan want to win isn't that what this is all about, I want my team win. True I would love for them to stay in Jersey I like that, but the fact of the matter is the team is falling apart here and a change is needed.

Anyone who says they won't be fans anymore fine, go root for Rutgers, your probably not true fans anyway. A true fan wants what's best for his team and the IZOD center is not it.
