Who should be voted off the island?

Post#1 » by NetsForce » Sun Mar 1, 2009 12:21 am

It's become apparent that the Nets have way too many young big men to get them all ample playing time and / or develop them properly... When one big guy plays good another moves out of the rotation and vice versa... So which big man should the Nets move in the offseason?

I think this was unanimously Sean Williams not too long ago but he's starting to display that upside that had many of us drooling last year...

I'm not really sure which big man I wanted traded at this point in time...

Yi is the one with the most probability of staying.

I can easily see Josh being shipped out to complete a trade, he's aonly got a year left in his contract and might ask for the MLE in 2010..

Ryan Anderson could also be shipped out in the right deal that nets us another promising young player in return.

Sean Williams won't be moved until he raises his stock.. Not many teams are willing to deal anything of value for him, so it doesn't make sense to just give him away..

Josh Boone is G, but I had to vote him.
Truthfully, I would rather it Yi as long as him, Bobby's expiring and maybe a pick got us a big time player.

Whoever voted for Sean Williams has no soul.

Ryan and Yi aren't going anywhere. They are Kiki's favorites, and are all but untouchable. We actually turned down PHX, who wanted the two of them plus expirings for Amar'e. So, it's really down to Boone vs. Williams.

I voted for Josh Boone.

I really like him, and right now he's better for our team than Sean, but there are two issues for me:

1) his 2010 cap hold could make signing an impact FA tricky. I'M NOT JUST TALKING ABOUT ONE PARTICULAR FA, BY THE WAY! There are literally dozens of stars who will be available next summer. Not all of them deserve a max extension, but I'd like to keep our options open. Unless we can re-sign Boone dirt-cheap on July 1st, 2010, I would rather trade him now.

2) It is MUCH more likely that we will receive full trade value in return for Boone than any of our other bigmen, unfortunately.

Also, Williams has a higher ceiling, if we can tap into his potential more.

...Because Williams doesn't have the handles or perimeter game to play the 3.

I would keep Williams for his sheer shot blocking potential. All that is needed now is a real husky banger to the tune of a Dampier etc.

I wouldn't be against taking Blair in the draft to give us some beef solve our sans-Lopez rebounding.

The first true post entry to Lopez in quite some time comes at the beginning of the 2nd. He scores with three dribbles and a drop step to his right hand. Excellent position but still the play did not offer an outlet pass which should always be there for a post player.

They go back to Lopez with the same play and he draws a double. Imagine that. He quickly kicks it out, the ball is swung and Harris ends up with his defender having to come out on him, allowing him to shot fake and go into the lane drawing a foul.

I dunno, for short periods of the game, I like to see him match up against some of the bigger SFs in the league....he's quick enough where you can take a chance w. him at three while going big and still being able to use the outside shot w. Yi in the lineup at PF and Lopez @ C (vince & Devin)...I'm not saying to start...it would be tough or stretch, but I could see him adapting to the position on the defensive end against bigger SFs...of course you lose perimeter game and someone who can drive to the basket...but he's still can be used as a cutter and on lob plays...

I agree with every single word in this post. I like Boone, but because of the cap hold rules, Boone would count for like $6 million on the cap (until he signed) in 2010/11 as compared to just $2.5 million for Williams. This makes Boone nearly impossible to keep, especially with the cap likely going down between now and then.
