Crazy Idea (Salary Dump and Marcus Williams)

Post#1 » by vincecarter4pres » Sat Mar 7, 2009 11:04 pm

Alright, this is just a crazy idea I was thinking of a few minutes ago and wonder what people would think about it.

NJ sends:
Vince Carter
Devin Harris
future 1st round pick

NJ recieves:
Gilbert Arenas
Mike James
this year's Wiz pick unprotected

The deal would rely on one main term, the Washington pick is either top 1 or 2 protected.
If Washington lands the 1st or 2nd overall, we can null the deal altogether or accept it with their pick from the following year coming to us and we keep the pick we were going to send, because there is no way the Wiz do this if they have a chance at Griffin and it would be up to Washington to accept or decline if they get the 2nd overall.

I am in no way an advocate of trading Devin or VC, just throwing a crazy idea out there and wondering what people think.

I know it isn't very realistic, especially from a Washington standpoint, just wondering what NJ fans think of the deal.

Just on a big what if scenario with a lot of variables, check this out:

We basically trade VC and a future 1st for Arenas and Devin for maybe the 3rd or 4th pick and an expiring.

So, let's say we draft Monroe and then with our pick we draft maybe Henderson or trade the pick and filler for Rudy Gay, wgich is actually pretty realistic.

Then we trade Simmons expiring and Yi for Jason Richardson.

Then we would have a starting lineup like:

PG Arenas
SG J Rich
SF either Henderson or Gay
PF Monroe
C Brook

Then we still have a bench of Dooling, Hayes, Anderson, Swat, CDR, Najera and maybe a FA signing.

As long as Arenas stays healthy(Which is a huge IF) that is a team that is a literal contender, yet a team built for the future, maybe 5 or 6 years of contention with no major moves.

A lot of variables and what ifs, but I'm bored and was just throwing some outside the box ideas around.

Just try to make a more realistic trade rather than a crazy one. It's kinda non-sense because there's nothing really to say. You basically already have given what most people would say to something like this.

We all know Arenas' contract is not something we can handle along with his fragile body and Washington, just like what you've said, won't trade their pick when they know they have a chance at Griffin. That's pretty much it.

I wouldn't do it. Perhaps, if there was a point like Rose in the draft, than I would, but...not in this year's draft.

No Thanks.

I still think VC gets traded this off season, but it most likely will be to a WC team that just missed getting into the WCF. I still think Portland will bite especially if Roy continues to complain about nothing getting done this trade deadline.

Utah can bite too. That Knicks' draft pick is damn interesting.

I'm thinking if we do unload VC this offseason, the proposed deal to San An has legs.
2 of the contracts they send as filler are only 50% guarenteed so they immediately get bought out and are able to resign with San An if San An wants them back, Kurt Thomas won't mean as much to them if they retain Gooden or sign Sheed and it doesn't disrupt the team because it is done in the offseason. Then on top of that we no longer have Ager, Swift and possibly Hayes on the roster, so the over the limit rule concerns don't matter.

Another Crazy Idea...how about giving Marcus Williams another shot and filling that 15th spot and being our 3rd String PG? We could leave Najera and Ager on the Injured Reserve and switch off game by game on that 3rd. We'll have gotten a 1st for nothing.

^^^^Jack, if you hated that wild and crazy idea, getta load of this one.......

NJ sends:
Yi Jianlian
Bobby Simmons

LAC sends:
Zach Randolph
2009 1s round pick

Obviously the only way this trade would have a chance would be if the Clips pick wound up somewhere beween 3-6, figuring they aren't going to trade a top 2 pick IMO.

Now flame away, figuring I used to vigorously flame anyone for even mentioning Zach Randolph. :)

Haha honestly, as much as I love Yi and dislike Zach, if that pick is 3-6 I think you have to seriously think about it. Problem is, Zach is a black hole on offense. I think Zach would be horrible playing next to Brook.

Zach injuries dont scare me as much as Arenas...and I can see more of angle here...IMO, not as wild and crazy...but I doubt I would pull the trigger...I'd like to see Zach get settled and play for a longer period of time...
