Damn, your guys have already started to hate Yi this much. Guys, please, be patient. Yi just did not gain the enough confidence to compete in this league. And, he is still injured. Couple weeks ago, he told some Chinese journalists that he might needs like 3 more months to recover, but he has to play since Nets has a shoot in the playoff spot. And, he thinks he can play it through the pain. Most likely, I think his agent or his management forced him to do it so. He got the worst management team to help him.
But, guys, listen to me. Yi's personality is the real issue. He is kind of guy who doesn't know how to deal with the pressure, injure, culture shock, etc... He is just like a sealed box. One day, if he is failed in NBA, it would be caused by his personality. He has been slashed by his stupid management and greedy family a lot which make things worse.
However, there are still tons of Chinese fans are praying for him every single day. Why? caz he is the one who really loves basketball, he is the one who came out from a street basketball challenge, he is the one who rose up from nothing. He is the most talent basketball player ever exist in China.
Think about it once more, how tough he has been. Bucks stole he in the draft, made a lot chaos between his agent and Bucks. And, he has been traded in the rookie year. He got injured when he was trying to get revenge from Bucks. Man, he just looks like have a worst start in this league.
sigh.

Re: Should Yi be taken off the starting lineup?
Yeah he's a straight pick and pop player.. If he was here with the Cavs I'm sure LeBron could actually make him a pretty productive player and put him in some positions on the court to be successful..
I don't think he's still worth a lotto pick.. 2 years in, plenty of film on the guy, no post-up game, doesn't rebound well, not a shot blocker, poor passer and defender in two different systems... I'd say he's pretty much hit his ceiling with the chance to slightly improve to maybe a 12-13ppg and 5-6rpg kinda guy..
Somebody like Bargnani could still be worth a lotto pick perhaps, because he has shown flashes, and does do some thing like attack the basket a little more and has a quick release off screens etc... Yi is a little slower in that regard, and IMO doesn't possess the same type of value..
Nonetheless, you still have to give him one more year... Bigs on average take 3 years to develop.. The game begins to slow down at that point (again, kinda like Bargnani)-- so it would probably be in the Nets best interest to give it another year with him to go along with the development of Brook..
Speaking of Brook, where do you guys see his ceiling ?? I'm pretty high on Brook, and I think he has some serious potential... Just wondering what you guys see in him ?

We're all high on him. The main major weakness I see is that he's not that mobile, but other than that, he's golden. Definitely a future perennial all-star, IMO.

Ya it is kind of late now, I wouldn't be surprised if it was true that Yi needed more time to recover but his management pushed him to come back to play ASAP. Yi Jianlian was ranked #3 on Forbe's Top Chinese celebrity list, http://shanghaiist.com/2009/03/19/athle ... ebriti.php,
The one thing I think Yi is lacking is that summer off where he can get the best of the best trainers to help him adjust to the NBA game. Maybe he gets it this summer. In CHINA, he was so dominant because there are rarely any players that can match his skill, talent, and athleticism. He has only shown flashes of being a go-to player when he's a major part of the offense, especially those games pre-injury.
It does seem that Yi is definitley hurting in the confidence department. When he's not making his jumpshots, it almost seems like he adds nothing to the game. However, when he's playing well then his all-around game starts to show...he makes his shots, he rebounds, he blocks shots, he does things we'd all expect from him. I would of liked to see also come off the bench and be a focal point to the offense, playing alongside either Sean Williams or Boone.
Devin Harris, Vince Carter, and Brook Lopez are already ahead of him in the focal point of the offense so I only see it as being even more difficult for Yi to adjust. As much as Yi has struggled, I still think he can add more than just being a spot up shooter. I think teams like the Knicks and Warriors would love to have Yi, especially if it was only for a 2nd rd pick. The Rockets would probably be interested too, if the Nets just wanted to get rid of him for cheap. Heck, I think Phil Jackson could use him as part of the triangle where he once coached Brian Cook.

A 2nd round pick?!!
He's still worth at worst a mid teens 1st rounder or a player like Martell Webster, or someone else of that type of caliber.

Yi sucks. The news is out. The league knows already.
Nobody wants to pay him $2.5M/yr to add so little.

Idk I'd still give Yi some time....remember DIrk stunk for like 2-3 years and was considered soft as well...I still think Yi could be a good player in a few years but it will take some time

PF in the Nets system is nothing more than a labour. I would like to see Yi in the Warriors uniform. you know, sometimes whether you are gonna shine is depending on what kind of coach you run into.
on the other hand, Yi is apparently not a hustle player. if he was so, he could be a Carl Landry type of player. Or even if he is so, there is still no chance for him to be a contributive player in the Nets. Because Frank sucks. there are only two sets in Frank's playbook : VC isolate and DH isolate.

Boy the Nets sure made a big boo boo when they chose Yi over Villanueva in that RJ trade.
