This is the guy that Raptors fan's are going bananas over.
If the hype is worthy I'm all for it.
What am I saying? If it gets Opie out of here I am all for it.

OP, what is his style like?
What style of offense does he run?
Is he defensive minded?

Hi. Writing from Spain. Messina is considered by many the best European coach. I would raise other 4 or 5 names, but it is obvious that Messina is a really good coach, world class, no doubt.

it is true that his recent success has been built on a really strong team gathering in the same team some of the best players in Europe.

Defensive or offensive? Well, talent is not so available in Europe as in US. Therefore, a coach needs to deliver a very balanced play style to win regularly. There is no Don Nelson's or Mike D'Antoni's in Europe -although D'Antoni was an expection-. If I had to choose one, Messina is more defensive oriented. But think that in Europe, a good coach has more influence than in NBA. A superstar in the Euroleague is averaging less than 18ppg, there is no Kobe, LeBron or Chris Paul in here.

I think it would be an interesting option for the Nets. Just two concerns, the first one that I am not that sure that Messina is so willing to take the risk. He is the best paid coach in Europe. The second concern, he has a reputation for putting individual egos to work as a team, not that much for developing young talents. And Nets' future depends -in some percentage- on Lopez, CDR, Anderson, Williams.

Got this from someone over on the Netsdaily forums.

This article hyped me up. I am with VC4Pres. If he is going to get rid of Frank, I am all for it and I think I like this guy.

Messina is one of the best coaches in the world guys seriously this guy is better than at least 80% of the NBA's coaches he has absulotley dominated Euro basketball for the past couple of years (there was the Pini Gershon lead Macabi Tel-Aviv era, when it ended European Basketball was dominated by Messina).
If we dump Frank for this guy I have no doubt that we gained an excellent coach, the only concern I have is that in Euro-ball they dont give 2 ****t's about developing talent which is something that this team's next coach will have to be able to do with the talented young team we have.
