OT but why does everyone write Stoudemires name Amar'e now..
Because the little primadonna hired someone to help him decide how it should really be spelled and then legally changed it. I want no part in his no defense, no passing, selfish, overpaid, self.
He's not even as good as people make him out to be offensively anymore. He relies way to heavily on his jumper and Steve Nash setting him up. He's an OK rebounder, but not much more, he has a ton of mileage on his body and has had 2 knee surgeries. No thanks.

Reasons for one of these players is that we are not in the running for any of the top FA 2010. LB is off the market this summer. Spend the money this summer by trading for one of these players and use your future picks to bring up youg talent.
The issue isn't making the cap numbers work. The issue is that this team does not have the chips to get this young all-star PF like a West or Amare. It is widely considered to be a weak draft and Yi's value is in the toilet.
Expirings are nice, but without real value added, they aren't worth that much. Even in this economy, teams like Cleveland and Portland were unable to turn their big expirings into top players.
You are completely wrong on this one. The Nets have some of the best ttradde chips in the league for this offseason and next season up until the deadline. We have up to around 26 million in expirings, about 3 or 4 first round picks including a lotto pick this draft and a ton of youth that all look like really nice prospects, along with a Chinese player that generates huge revenue even if he never really gets any good.
I absolutley agree with Mack, except I don't like Amar'e. I would much rather West, Bosh, etc if we are talking about big name guys. I think West will very likely available, the thing is to get him you are gonna have to eat a contract like Peja's, Morris Peterson and Posey or Chandler for expirings plus sending back an asset or 2 such as our lotto pick and Yi. This team just has to be willing to eat the salary and that would go against the rumors of Thorn actually looking to slash payroll.
There was a rumored deal on the table at the deadline that was expirings or near expirings, Yi, Ryan Anderson and our pick in this draft for Amar'e and Rod and Kiki ultimately turned it down, at least that was what Thorn said in an interview. He said he liked Amar'e, but he didn't really fit in with what we are doing here, which leads me to believe one of three things. One, Ratner told Thorn not to add any salary. Two, Amar'e told Thorn he would sign an extension if he was traded here. Three, Thorn feels like me about Amar'e and wanted no part in him, or it was a combination of all those things.
Cleveland didn't do a deal for 2 reasons. One is they didn't any assets what so ever to add to the expirings, figuring their draft pick will be the 30th and they have no expendable youth or players that any other team would want. The 2nd is they don't want to add any 2010 salary because they still have some legitimate hopes of landing a huge FA that offseason to pair with Lebron if he stays.
Portland didn't do a deal because their front office is so blatantly arrogant that they were looking for a player such as VC and wanted to charge us a draft pick for the priviledge of taking him off our hands. Thorn wanted the expiring, a 1st round pick and a young player in return, Pritchard didn't want to include anyone more then Frye and wanted our 2009 draft pick or at least the Dallas pick. Same thing happened with Milwaukee, they wanted Sessions or the Bucks pick to take on RJ's salary and the Bucks FO scoffed and called their bluff.
