It seems like Memphis wants to compete.

They have the cap room to absorb a salary.
I really doubt Gay is a player they would consider trading, but I would take on any bad contract they have for a VC-Gay trade.

I've read where the Grizzlies owner really thinks highly of Rudy Gay and most likely they'll sign him to an extention. They also indicated they'll bring Hakim Warrick back as well.
Their #1 priority is going to be a power forward, and judging by the way they made Josh Smith a big offer last summer they'll probably pick another free agent to go after this summer, most likely Paul Milsap. I think Carlos Boozer won't opt out and instead hold onto his massive contract in this uncertain market, and Utah won't be in a position to counter a big offer from Memphis.
They've also come right out and said they'll be going with the best player available route at #6 so it's anyone's guess what player they'll pick in the draft. They need depth and talent everywhere.Any wing player they get is going to have to realize he'll see spot duty behind Gay and Mayo so they'll have to carefully find the right player(s) for that. Other than Dooling I don't see any players that Memphis would really have an interest in that the Nets might be willing to consider trading in a deal that could make sense for both teams.

They arent trading for a 33 year old swingman, they've made that abundantly clear with their past moves. It doesnt put them over the top in the West.

As an owner, I would gladly pay that money to see Lima at every home game.

I wonder if they would have any interest in Najera? I hate even the possibility of Opie giving him big minutes and him jacking up 3's with his low 30's career percentage from deep. Shudder.
