Washington gets an all-star SG in Carter. His distribution skills along with his willingness to defer, make him a good fit next to Arenas. They also get 2 rotational bench players in Boone and Hayes. After accounting for the luxury tax, this deal saves the Wizards $7 million this year, not counting the price of the pick (more than $13 million if you do count the pick). With the addition of Carter and the returns of Arenas/Haywood (combined to play 8 games), I think that is a definite top 4 team in the East. Depending on the pending FA of Hedo and the state of KG's knee, it might be the #2 team in the conference.
New Jersey continues their rebuilding process with pick #5. This would seemingly put them in a prime position for James Harden. Plus they'd still still have their other pick at #11 (James Johnson or Earl Clark). The Nets take on a decent chunk of salary this upcoming season (about $6.5 million), but also trim a little more than $5 million off of their 2010/11 payroll (counts the salary of pick #5), putting them in position to potentially add that max-level free agent that summer. At the very least they put themselves in prime position for the Derrick Favors sweepstakes
