For me the issue isn't that it's too much for Shaq (since I don't think it's that good for PHX), but the Shaq/Lopez issue. In terms of a pure on-court impact, Mike Miller would likely have a bigger impact for NJ.

Considering you had Yi going to MIN in your proposal, I was going to ask your thoughts on a deal that centered around Miller/Smith for Yi/Boone/filler. The problem is that I can't seem to get the numbers to work. Hassell isn't making enough while Simmons is making way too much.

I have no interest in Yi, and I can't imagine he would be happy in MIN.

Craig Smith/Miller for Yi/Boone/Hassell/Hayes would work salary wise.

While I'm hesitant to give up on Yi in a trade where they don't get a long-term asset back, this deal looks pretty fair for both sides. Miller is the best player in the deal and if you assume Yi's option was going to be picked up (no reason it wouldn't/shouldn't) it does save $4 million in 2010/11. Thanks the CBA rules, the cap hold on Smith would also be more palatable than the one on Boone.

To be fair, I can't say anything about MIN's interest in Yi because he's really someone no one has mentioned.

My goal in this trade was to try to include the expirings or near-expirings that would have the least value to you, and replace them with players that would more value, and find some small amount of future value as payment. MIN doesn't need talent right now, since their season really starts in 2010 when they can access their cap space and my thinking was that NJN needs butts in the seats. Anyway, if you have other players that you would prefer to move than this package, but are still basically expirings, then the worse the better. I think Keyon Dooling is under-rated around here, but if you wanted to swap him out for Yi, I'm fine with that. If you prefered the semi-local Telfair at $2.5, we could use both, and save you some money if it adds value.

I guess what would help me know your situation better would be a listing of your players and pick, in order that you would not mind seeing them gone/least trade value, then I should start at one end of your list.
