Just for reference, James Johnson is #23.

This one is really just the end of the Duke game, but he plays some good defense, gets a key rebound and hits the game winner.

These are highlights from the Wake/Clemson game in April.

excellent clips - he is alot more skilled then i thought, especially his handle, plus he looks like he could match up against NBA PFs. I also like how aggressive he is and how he finsihes in traffic, has good body control with a nice touch. Kind of the exact opposite player that Yi is.

Ellis was a nice nice player before his career was derailed by injuries. Not a superstar, but a fringe all-star year in, year out IMO, was his potential.

Exactly.
Plus injuries started so early in his career, we will never really know what is true ceiling was.

BTW, reading about what people are saying about James Johnson gets me thinking Ryan Gomes, give or take.

Thanks for the clips.

I really like this kid. I like what I think he can bring to this team.

My only question mark with this guy is defense. He definitely is not tall/long enough to defend PFs full time. Is he quick enough to handle SFs? What is with the talk of mental lapses and lazy D?

Regardless, he does seem like a good option because his size/skills will definitely translate offensively.

He's supposedly a legit 6'8 with solid wingspan, so I don't see a big problem with him guarding PF's.
He might not be quick enough to guard SF's though.

He does have mental lapses on D and tends to take some plays off, but even Melo has proven you can change that if you put your mind to it.

Johnson is more athletic and bigger than Gomes. I think Johnson also has more potential.

He's more 6'9" than 6'8" I believe. He really is a big kid.

He needs motivation to play D but he has great tools on that side of the ball from the 7-8 games I watched of him this year.
