Harris

Post#1 » by amk482 » Fri May 22, 2009 4:57 pm

Was talking to a buddy who suggested that Harris is the type of player who will be a great individual player on a bad team. I'm not saying I agree or disagree but was curious what everyone else thought.

The scary part about Harris is can he improve as a floor general leader type of PG.

If he cant, we can see another Starbury on our hands.

I am pretty sure Devin Harris is going to become a better player next year. He needs to work on his defense and passing(he is a OK passer). He makes great passes, its just that his teammates dont finish the play.

Well, I would trade him for the right player, but he can easily be a big piece of a contender.

Well, i would trade Harris to either Memphis or Oklahoma for their 1st round this year and another young player, possibly Marc Gasol, as a back up for Lopez and since Gasol is very familiar with Rubio, who im gonna pick using that 2nd selection, it'd be the perfect trade, FOR ME.

And with the 11th pick, i'd like to have Johnson as well or Blair but since this draft is stacked with guards then i guess that would be the choice and i would like to draft DeRozan, Harden or Terence Williams, like most people here. Stephen Curry is very interesting, he excites me and the guy is just instant offense, i definitely would take a look at him as well, i think that's a fair talent for the 11th selection.

Good question Amk. Harris still has a lot to prove. Was he just lucky to be on the Mavs when they were loaded with talent and went to the finals? Was he lucky to be trade to NJ where he givin free raign and catered to? There are guys who put up big numbers on bad teams like Jerry Stackhouse years ago. As for Devin time will tell.

This will be the first time that you will get me to say anything criticizing Harris. Harris has lot more improvement on his PG skills. He should be a top five PG but he has to do a better job of managing what he likes to do best against doing what is necessary to win games.

it is much easier for him to shoot first then pass. I would like to see Devin average 9.3 to 9.7 APG for next season i think that will generate a few more wins for next season.

i dont think his defense will be as good as it was in Dallas because of the role he plays with us now. but he has to stop the other teams guards from penetrating against our porous defense.

9 assists and change would be lovely but it isn't realistic. Give me 17 to 20ppg and 8apg, while playing better defense and having better shot selection and game management skills and I'm happy.

I agree - we cant be a good team if th eonly way we can win if he scores 25+. Need a little more balance and i think 18 and 8 plus better D (like he played in Dallas) would do wonders for this team ( in addition to two new starting forwards).

I don't think this is gonna be the case with Harris. The difference between him and Marbury is that Marbury is stubborn as hell. He won't adjust his game to fit the abilities of his teammates. I don't think Harris has that problem. So no, I don't believe he'll be as ineffective as Marbury is/was.

Terrible idea. Ty Lawson and Devin Harris would get abused, plus Ty Lawson is uber overrated, he is not a starting point guard on a quality NBA team unless it is an Allstar level team at all other positions, where you can plug any old decent point guard in and even that is a stretch.

VC4P wasn't that what he was averaging and doing just before he hurt his shoulder? Stat wise i mean. As for the D, shot selection and gms i think that will come. remember this is his first full year of having the ball in his hand 80% + of the time. Yeah sure he got a little carried away a bit to often but I think he was really developing the other part of his game. The biggest thing Harris did wrong was proving to his team mates, his bosses and us that he could play hurt and that he has some ticker. That act of inner strength cost us oh i dunno the 8th pick plus a lot more ping pong balls. He should of shut it down.

Cheers

Yeah, I forget the exact #'s, but I believe he was above 20 a game and 8 a game.
I agree with your whole post.
We'll see how he has developed next season.

Harris unless we somehow get Griffin o someone like that soon is the franchise player of this team for the next 5 years and Im happy with that.
He's a good passer as apposed to what some people think ,has a good attitude (as apposed to Marbury) and just in case you guys forgot was tearing this league up when he was healthy to begin the season.
Im very happy that this guy (who'se also a top 5-6 PG ) is our PG going forward.
