Post#1 » by S.I.C. GM » Fri Jun 26, 2009 5:20 pm

Even though most of us didnt see many ORL games, but based on what everyone has seen:

Who in your opinion plays better D?

Lee or VC

I dont know so I present it to the board.

I'd give Lee a slight edge mainly because he didn't have to worry about contributing on offense. I've never been overly impressed with his defense, it's not bad but I don't think it's DPOY material like some Magic fan would have liked you to believe. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong.

I think Lee's the better defender, but I think his D was overrated (and Vince's underrated). The good thing is that with Terrence Williams around, I doubt Lee will have to play against the other team's top wing too often.

The reason why i asked is

If he played better Defense then Vince with howard, I can see this team playing some really good perimeter D.

Harris, Lee, TWill
Harris, Dooling, TWill

If CDR can improve his D this offseason, we can be strong on the perimeter.

Of course the X-Factor is Frank. He preaches it but will he continue to sacrifice it by worrying about the points.

I know someone is going to say Harris has issues with his D. I think it is Frank's systems that has issues.

Lee was/is an extremely good defender. You might remember him completely blanketing CDR last year and causing him to be taken out of the game because he was having trouble getting it up the court. In terms of perimeter defense I think Lee can be elite. He doesn't have the size or length to defend bigger SGs or SFs in the post though.

Harris/Lee/TWill could be a really nice perimeter trio defensively. I really like Lee as a defender.

I think Lee is a better perimeter defender while VC is better inside. VC can block shots and alter some of them. He tends to stay more inside and because of that he's able to get quality rebounds but on the negative side, the opposing team were able to burn us outside, shooting a lot of wide open shots which was, imo, our biggest weakness defensively last season. We got beat many times not being able to protect the 3's and long jumpers.

So now this season, i predict, with a better perimeter defenders but minus Anderson, we will suck in REBOUNDING. Although TWill is great rebounder, we still need to improve and probably get a better rebounder at the 4 position. SWill, Najera and Yi are all going to be a liability in that category and Brook won't be able to cover all that duty as he is still trying to perfect his game offensively, we gonna need his offense more this time now that VC is gone.

I say, get a rebounder and if the guy can play defense as well, that'd be a good plus. Maybe, a Evans or Ben Wallace type. Who would you guys consider?

I'm going to love having Lee. He's been my boy since I called WKU's run in the tourney.

I'm very intrigued to see how his offense develops as a much bigger part of this team's scheme.
He was a 20ppg scorer his senior year and a high teen's per game guy the 2 seasons prior.
I also hope that his perimeter defense stays elite when shouldering the much bigger scoring load.

I actually think CDR will be the guy we look to most in terms of scoring from the wing.
