I think we'll see him stay. Thorn isn't looking to waste any money so he'll probably just ride it out. Don't know if he'll make the rotation.. though I wouldn't mind him getting in there and blocking a few shots.

Down with NJN since Kenny and Derrick

With the Nets' current lack of depth up front, I think they hold on to Battie for now. I can see him getting "freed" to go to a contender before the roster deadline though.

Keep him for now. He's the best backup big on the team.

I actually think we're keeping everyone in the vince deal. Rafer will be our backup pg, and Battie gives us a decent backup 5. Plus, they're all expirings. If there is a legit player starting to complain this season at any point, we have the contracts to make a proposal. If nothing happens, we have the cap space for this summer. I'd be surprised if we bought anyone out.

I am going to agree with everybody for the most part, but depending on if devilsjets7's media source is correct, there is a chance that Rafer goes. The site he found says Rafer is guaranteed for this season if he played at least 70 games last season, if not he would have only been guaranteed 2.5 million of the 5.25 million on the last year of his deal.
This sounds entirely too specific to be made up, so I am going to take it as fact.

I think Battie could be a great mentor or really even a great big man player coach for all the young guys and if we are out of the playoff race by the playoff roster deadline in mid March, I would imagine we do what deviljets7 says and buy him out. Ownership saves a little money and he gets to sign with a contender, possibly the Magic, for the rest of the season.

Rafer gets me a lot more nervous because he has a history of being a headache and an a-hole in the lockerroom when things aren't going good for the team and he isn't getting a lot of minutes.
I really like LurkingO's idea to send him to NOH for Antonio Daniels and the cash to make up the difference in yearly salary. He can play both guard spots, I have never heard of him complaining, no matter the situation and he runs an offense better without jacking shots like crazy.
He sure isn't as good as Rafer, but hense the reason the trade benefits both sides.

Yeah, Rafer could suck. He's a solid player but it's pretty much a guarantee that he complains about his PT and that's the last thing a young team needs.

Kris Humphries will be the best backup big in 3 days.

I don't get it.
Are you trying to imply there is a trade between NJ and Toronto that will take place on July 1st and that it involves Kris "my 1st name is spelled in the feminine" Humphires, and that for some reason even if it did happen you think Kris "my 1st name is spelled like your sister's" Humphries is good?

The guy is a troll...

There's a thread on the Raptors board where it's expected that Bryan Colangelo will announce a trade on July 1st, I browsed through the thread and then made a post shooting down the Keyon Dooling for Kris Humphries "rumor" citing the fact that no discussions ever took place between the teams...

I then detailed how Humphries would be the 6th big man off the bench for the Nets, as well as how Keyon Dooling is significantly better than Humphries both from a talent AND contract standpoint.

Yes, I am implying a trade will happen, and it will have Dooling coming back our way. As for Hump the 1st big off the bench, that might have been an exxageration. I was basically trying to say he will be traded.

How bout it's Josh Smith for Caldy and Hump. Float that gem around the T-Dot board as a possibility, Canadians will kill the bandwith so bad RealGM's servers will crash.

My inside sources have just informed me that the July 1st trade will be centered around Chris bosh for Bobby Simmons and Eduardo Najera.

Word on the street is that Bryan Colangelo wants to toughen up his team.

Trust me my sources are 100% infallible.

Now go forth my fellow Nets fans spread this rumor to the far reaches of the internet!

I don't know.
Bobby Simmons is pretty big trade chip, I don't know if we should waste it on Chris Bosh.
Then again, we do get rid of Najera's contract...

VC4Pres,

The site that had the info about Rafer came from JES12. Whether that's a good thing or bad thing is for you to decide.

I tend to believe that site, especially in terms of Rafer's contract. No one in the media has mentioned that Rafer was partially guaranteed (they did with Oberto/Bowen in the RJ trade). Also, is there any way Ratner would authorize picking up Rafer's option and paying the additional $2.75 million for a reserve with a history of being a cancer? With the way he's pinching pennies I can't see it.

JES appears to be reading porn but he's really got copy of the CBA hidden in it.
