It's not often that players flee from one team to another to join a complete rebuilding effort. What I'm wary of is an Atlanta Hawks type situation (where the team goes into a prolonged rebuilding mode); the Hawks got draft pick after draft pick but could never put together a winning season so they kept getting overlooked by big name free agents and instead had to settle on second rate players such as Al Harrington and Antoine Walker.
I know some posters are secretly, and others are not-so-secretly, hoping that the Nets perform horribly this season and get a great draft pick, and while I could live with that, I wouldn't mind (and don't think it's out of the realm of possibilities) if the Nets went out and won 30 games either.
I totally understand where your coming from, to be fair though the Hawks' record with lottery picks was epically bad during that stretch.

On top of that, even if none of our current players improve a lot from last season, our lineup is still a lot more talented then rosters like Cleveland or Miami. Those vteams are literally 10 to 20 win teams without Lebron and Wade respectably, no exaggeration.
Guys like Wade and Lebron are so talented and have such big egos on the court, that although obviously common sense says the want to sign with a team with some nice pieces around them, they think and actually just know that whereever they go they basically turn that club into a 2nd round playoof team.
I think you're really overrating how many wins we get next seaeson. These guys can evaluate talent and fit themselves, they can think on their own. If they like what they see on our roster, they like it.
The main things they are going to be worried about are living conditions, work conditions, marketability of the area, coaching staff and how the team they are joining is setup for the future, talent wise and cap wise, will the team they're joining sign another big time player or even one of their max contract buddies?
Money isn't even a concern, cause they are getting max where ever they go and they know they have to take a year less and pay increases of 2.5% less if they sign outright, it's not like it's a suprise.
How many wins isn't going to dictate anything to these guys as long as they think their own addition makes the team a contender, and I don't even think they care if Devin is a good fit chemistry and playing wise with them because they know he has high trade value and management would trade him in a heartbeat for a better fit with similar talent to appease a guy like Wade or Lebron and further the teams overall chances for success.
